Laser etched markings are very weak and hard to read. They have wiped off a quarter of the set within the first month of use. I'm not pro just weekend mechanic. Also a few sockets where missing took 3 tries before they got it right. Each time I had to return the whole set. You also have to return the whole set anytime you warranty they will not just replace one socket. Check out some of the reviews before purchasing.

I've had my kobalt set for 13 years I think and I still think these are easier to read then the imprinted ones. After that many years of severe use and abuse I've had none wear off.
The warranty part is true. But I buy a new single tool to replace the broken one then replace the broken one. This makes it "hassle free lifetime warranty" as advertised.

Dang. I ordered this earlier today, but wish I had read your comment, first. As this will be staying in a dedicated roll cab, I'm hoping these problems are a non-issue, but guess I'll have to see when they arrive...

For the German car owners, you can't beat that price on the 153 Bit Driver Socket set for $49. That's only 32 cents per socket.

Though you will need to spend extra for some socket rails or racks because it doesn't come with a case.

Harbor Freight sells their 78 piece Bit Driver socket set for $100. https://www.harborfreight.com/han...70347.html

For $99, you're not gonna find a better value, even if the mentioned issues do exist. I'll just say that I've had these same Kobalt sockets for over a decade, with moderate use, and I haven't experienced any issues. Although, I guess it could be possible that there could have been a change in Kobalt's manufacturing and production line that could now be causing issues, IDK.

I stand corrected. I ordered this set from another deal posted. However, have now ordered both sets, and will see how it plays out. LoL.

There was another 99 tool set deal. I wish I had waited for this one. 211 piece Sockets only with shallow and deep is a very good deal!

I'd bet highly that your 13-year-old set doesn't hold much relevance to compare to this one. We all know that most everything has had quality cut from it in the last 13 years, and esp even in just last few yrs since Covid.

Unfortunately, they're most likely not the "same." And given the reviews from even just infrequent home users it looks like reality.

That $49 set is an instant buy.

Just one segment of that set would pay for the whole thing.
