What was the deal yesterday?
I wonder why they don't make glass version.
I didn't have the coupon for yesterdays deal so figured I would pull trigger for this one. One notable benefit of this model is that the 10yr warranty also covers the SS jar vs 3yr buying it separately.
Downside of the SS container: You can't see what needs to be tamped or when the blend is optimized. Best use is dry grinding such as spices and seeds.
Ascent series is not compatible with the 32 oz container ($100 on deal) which is considered indispensable by many. Easy to handle and clean. Perfect for single servings, frozen fruit sorbet with no liquid needed for processing, ice cream, sauces. Consider this before committing to Ascent.

Alternatives: The rugged 7500 workhorse w 64 oz low ($270-$300 on deal ) + the 32 oz ($100 slick) meets all of my blending and processing needs including enough power to liquefy chicken bones and scraps for disposal. My 2012 model year 7500 is still going strong with daily use. Never overheated or stopped mid-blend. 7 year warranty parts and labor, free sh both ways with the ability to extend that out to 10 years at time of purchase for a modest fee when purchasing direct from Vitamix.
The 5200 also accepts the 32 oz. Popular with some owing to the tall 64 oz it comes with. But is that enough reason to buy the clunky motor base with radial cooling it comes with?
Reviews like this one from Serious Eats fail to consider overall performance when you have both a large blade low container and narrow one like the 32 oz.

If you most often prepare smoothies and drinks then what matters is how silky smooth the result with little to no unprocessed bits of seed or kale. Not making peanut butter? Then why care if the tall 64 is the best container for that job?
With experience most say that they don't find the smart series features all that useful. I'm definitely in that camp. Green juice only takes seconds, smoothies perhaps a minute.
The metal must be solid titanium laced with sterling silver.

For pp asking about glass, no that would be dangerous with a high power blender. Vitamix clear containers are made of thick heavy duty BPA-free EastmanĀ® TritanĀ® copolyester. They last for years. OEM containers are fitted with a precision hardened ss blade-bearing-seal assembly which can be moved to a new bare container if you somehow damage it.
