Anyone manage to use one of these on a PC without using the 3rd party software? I know some thermal printers can require the use of a 3rd party app but others are treated by the computer as any old external printing device.

I have the Niimbot B21 – which I think might just be the same printer as the B1 but with a retro style case – and it works great for my purposes. Easy to use, the software is fine, quality is good enough if you're just labeling stuff around the house.

One potential downside is it does use proprietary labels, but they're reasonably priced (sometimes straight from the Niimbot website is cheapest if you can wait for slow shipping). Have read you can save the spool with the RFID on it and swap in third party labels but never felt compelled to try.

I have used similar model from this company and I like the app. I explored other similar brands and didn't find much difference, apps seem similar too.

Got one of these during Black Friday. It does well with the regular paper labels that it came with. If you're planning on using this for polyester or vinyl asset tags, skip it. It barely prints and the QR code is unreadable. The no name 4x6 printers with multiple tags per sheet does a lot better, but when you only need to print one tag....

Other than that, it wasnt tested/used for anything else.

Avoid Niimbot. They have DRM chips on their refill labels like home printers.
