This is a WOLED set. If you are watching in a dim or dark room, QD-OLED is better (gets brighter but external brighter lights on the screen makes blacks look purple). If you are watching in a room with more daylight, WOLED is better. If it is an extremely bright room then OLED is not the best choice in general, a mini-LED is better to combat the glare with how bright it can get.
I had a heck of a time getting this price yesterday (3/10/25) but ultimately succeeded. I saw the open box S85D on the website at a local store, went to the store to check it out and it was there and in great shape but the price tag said $940. Best buy guy scanned one of the barcodes and it came up as $707!. While he was ringing it up at the register, I wrapped the TV in bubble wrap, then the teller said it would only ring up at $940. 3 managers later, and they told me it must be wrong price, they couldn't sell it to me for $743 because it was below cost. Dumb manager said wasn't the right TV on the website and I wouldn't have been able to purchase it. I brought up the website on my phone and the item had vanished. I left pissed.

Got home, TV was listed again on website. I bought via website for $743, and called asking if it was really there. New manager said "oh yes, it is all wrapped in bubble wrap and ready to go!" I picked it up an hour later.

I think the price change on 3/10 really confused all their systems for a couple hours, and the retail workers were sadly not helpful. I really tried to make 5 Best Buy employees jobs be relevant, but at the end of the day buying via website with no human interaction was the only way to get it.

Good deal on this model. LG and Samsung both make great OLED sets. I probably would have bought a Samsung, except I specifically wanted Dolby Vision, so I bought an LG last year.

Is this brighter in room mentality I keep reading really that big of a difference or are people just nitpicking?

LG TV's have Dolby Vision if that's important for you while this TV doesn't

It is
But you are going to have a spend a lot more money than this to get an OLED that is considered " bright"

if you go LCD...you can get incredible brightness for sub $1000 with a Hisense U8N or a TCL QM851

I have a Q70A in the room (which never gets sunlight) so I'm thinking of putting this S85D in the room and the Q70D in the living room. Switcherooski.

Interesting opinion...and I am unsure what you mean by " the low quality"

I own both currently....Sony A95L OLED and a few bright LCDs..Samsung QN90C , QN800C as well as Hisense U8H

In my home , and any retail environment I have ever been in, the LCD's are much brighter

if you have a wall of windows, as I do, on one side of a room the LCD's handle that better

"works fine in a bright ass Sam's club"

Ok now put a window in front of the TV in Sam's and shine the sun directly on the TV and let us all know.

Samsung sold these direct for as low as $849 with a recycling rebate and education or EPP just before the Super Bowl. They even included basic white glove delivery where they set it up in your room of choice, but mounting to the wall was extra. At the time, Best Buy and PC Richards was charging $999 and offered free mounting.

Since I was EPP eligible, I bought it. My apartment isn't bright in the current setup. And even if I were to rearrange it, most TV watching is after dark, so not an issue. Overall, I'm happy with it. Beats the cheapo Black Friday special it replaced. I doubt you'll see lower than what I paid. And knowing that it dropped to $849, I definitely wouldn't pay more than $999 for it.
