This is a WOLED set. If you are watching in a dim or dark room, QD-OLED is better (gets brighter but external brighter lights on the screen makes blacks look purple). If you are watching in a room with more daylight, WOLED is better. If it is an extremely bright room then OLED is not the best choice in general, a mini-LED is better to combat the glare with how bright it can get.
Is this brighter in room mentality I keep reading really that big of a difference or are people just nitpicking?

LG TV's have Dolby Vision if that's important for you while this TV doesn't
But you are going to have a spend a lot more money than this to get an OLED that is considered " bright"
if you go LCD...you can get incredible brightness for sub $1000 with a Hisense U8N or a TCL QM851

I have a Q70A in the room (which never gets sunlight) so I'm thinking of putting this S85D in the room and the Q70D in the living room. Switcherooski.

I own both currently....Sony A95L OLED and a few bright LCDs..Samsung QN90C , QN800C as well as Hisense U8H
In my home , and any retail environment I have ever been in, the LCD's are much brighter
if you have a wall of windows, as I do, on one side of a room the LCD's handle that better
"works fine in a bright ass Sam's club"
Ok now put a window in front of the TV in Sam's and shine the sun directly on the TV and let us all know.

Since I was EPP eligible, I bought it. My apartment isn't bright in the current setup. And even if I were to rearrange it, most TV watching is after dark, so not an issue. Overall, I'm happy with it. Beats the cheapo Black Friday special it replaced. I doubt you'll see lower than what I paid. And knowing that it dropped to $849, I definitely wouldn't pay more than $999 for it.
