Its good for some niche use cases. For example, I have a HTPC with a small SSD like this one as the boot drive + a bunch of hard drives to store downloaded movies & shows. Someone building a similar machine would be fine with one of these.

Those are useful as Hypervisor and NAS boot drives without taking up a m.2 slot and much better than booting from a USB.

No.

I'd rather get a better brand, and at least 250GB or 500GB for some maneuvering room and better data retention.

Just depends on your use case. I've got 10-20 mini PCs running at any given time, most of them have a 256GB boot drive with 80%+ capacity never being utilized.

If I had unused SATA ports on my PC I would buy a few of these and set them up in Raid 0 (and use for Steam library etc).

This is great for a raspberry pi. Sd cards go bad after a while, if anyone is wondering.

Couple more use cases for 128GB SSDs...

I repurposed an HP 8200 Elite SFF to be an OPNsense box.

Using 120GB PNY CS900s I got on clearance a number of years ago at the (now closed) Staples in town. (Learned about it on SD.)

About 97% free. (Some of the filesystems are on ram disks.)

(The LAN is hardwired, Cat 6 and gigabit switches, no wireless.)

Another one is in a Dell Optiplex 990 MT.

That one I did an Audit Mode install of W10 so only the OS and programs are on the SSD, everything else is on a spinner.

I'd consider putting this in an OptiPlex, but I don't have Prime anymore and it's equivalent to $80/TB. I'll wait for a higher capacity 2.5" SSD deal.

FWIW, Best Buy has the "refurbished" Samsung EVO 1TBs on sale again for $60:

I got one last time using a $5 reward, 97GB TBW.
