Is this a good deal? New to this. Are the shadow line guide worth the extra money?

Beginner diy woodwork hobbyist. I inherited a track saw and have been eyeing a miter saw, consensus seems to be that sliding miter saw is the way to go for the extra cut capacity. Wondering if anyone else in similar situation can provide insight. I'm looking to build some diy dining tables, benches, and outdoor wooden chairs. I'd also like to replace window stools, build floating shelves, possibly built in cabinets, replace trim.

in the same position. it seems the sliding adds depth and weight and is not the most accurate. with a track saw, seems I would be able to do most things with that if it is too wide for the miter. Eyeing this vs. the bosch sliding as those are reported to be a lot better.

I too have been eyeing the Bosch glide! 10in and 12in. Love that it doesn't take up room the glide arm, I just don't know if the Bosch prices ever goes down similar to dewalts?

Yes, you want double bevel, compound, sliding with cutline. Where a fixed mitre saw (12" for example) might have a max cut span of 5 1/4" - with the sliding feature you get that much more distance for wide/tall cuts.

First, you're going to ask yourself how you ever survived without a compound mitre saw once you start digging into your projects.

Second, this tool will pay for itself after one or two nice sized projects. I bought one years ago to do all my own interior trim (baseboards, door trim, etc) and it saved me $2K-$3K off contractor doing it. I've used it for countless projects over the years including hobby stuff - just get the saw - 100% will not be disappointed (they are actually fun tools.)

The price on this seems oddly low (I'm probably missing something - not familiar with Dewalt's prices) but my Hitachi of same features was $399 on sale.

Appreciate the insight. This one 716xps is non sliding.

Shit I just ordered the regular non xps version from the acme deal for $350 w/ stand. I ordered the non-slider Because I wanted it to be more compact for storage, but also it has a big stand anyway… Should I have regrets? I think I have regrets.

Can the regular DWS716 be upgraded with the XPS light feature? I think I read that some older DW716 can.

Would love some insight on this saw vs the 779 I purchased in January with the stand
My goal is diy projects like trim workaround and the house and other projects that required small cuts. Nothing ever like furniture etc.
Needs are precise and quality cuts and small light and nimble. I would like laser even if it's an addon
Will this model work and can I add the laser? The 779 is huge and super heavy.
Which brands are better Bosch, DeWalt or other
Thanks in advance
