Moto G Power 5G 2024 which is much better, spec wise, than the Moto G 5G 2024, is still available via straight talk for $55+tax with 1 month of service and no line cancellation hassle.
One can also buy 2 of those together for $95+tax.
Phones unlock 60 days after activation. No need to pay for 2nd month:

Can either or both of these phones-the 5G or the Power 5G- receive the VZW mmWave (5Guw) signal? If so what band do you look for to determine this? The Moto G Play does not appear to be 5G capable at all.

Google AI says: N260 and N261. The specs on the BB website do not show these listed. There is an N26, I don't suppose that is the same?

I don't have any experience or proof but I would just wait for 60 days until the phone is unlocked before I would try porting out, but that would mean keeping the line active for 60+ days.

Someone who had a different experience and no issues porting out early can chime in.

Straight Talk chat says I'd need to pay for 2 months (60 days).

The 5G mmWave bands are the ones after N256 so no neither of these have support for it.

No the phone comes unlocked and ready to be used with any carrier. You will receive a VZW SIM taped to it which you don't need to use unless you need to know the phone number for the purpose of cancellation. Even if you pop in that SIM the phone remains unlocked.

That has never been case. Won't be surprised if the chat rep. was intentionally/unintentionally misleading. Check the threads for this exact deal on SD for wiki and more info.

Verizon return policy https://www.verizon.com/support/return-policy/

"You may terminate service for any reason. You will remain responsible for your Activation Fee unless you terminate service within 3 days of activation."

Refer to the pixel 9 pro XL thread linked in the post for more details.

What's better to do? I have a local pickup option at my bb, or is the shipping option better?

Local pickup is better as you can then cancel quickly right after picking it up.
