The smudges would only happen if you close the book or turn the page after writing. I let mine air out after writing for about 30+ seconds.
In its very basic capability it is just like taking a picture of your notes but with a bit of setting it up, it could organize your notes really well as well as send/share it to anybody in a flash. In the app you can designate icons to link to your preferred destinations for your notes (email, text, cloud storage) up to under which folders you want them in. You can also setup what kind of file to save it as (pdf, png, etc). Then on the bottom of each note pages, you just circle that icon and it'll automatically send it to your saved destination. On the back of the front cover, the icons are listed so you can write which destinations they go as a good reference.
There are also some shortcuts you can write out in your notes to make it more convenient. An example of a 'shortcut' is enclosing the first line with a couple of pound signs (hashtags for you gen Z's) if you want to name that particular page when you save it (##Write anything here##), otherwise it will default to your default setup like two digit numerical representation of year|month|day|hours|minutes|seconds|etc. (for example 250327094835.pdf).
Highly recommend it getting it. Price wise, I got mine way cheaper at around $6 but that was a while back.

Were you using the correct pen because you can't use just any pen it has to be the pilot frixion erasable ink pens. I've had my Rocketbook Wave for almost 7 years and have never had that issue.

Good experienced with mine as well. Got mine about 5+ years ago and all pages still in pristine condition except one where I accidentally use a regular pen, only a couple of lines so I still use it.

I appreciate you using it a few times. Mine had been lying around for almost a year.
It never worked. I tried so many notations from research on many areas. I ended up just getting better at Google calendar.
I really wanted this to work; but as another commenter said — its just you taking photos.
