Was at my local Target tonight and saw Block Financial H&R Block Tax Preparational Software Deluxe + State 2024 on clearance for $17.99.
Note is just a box that has download code within, for windows or mac.

As with all Target clearance YMMV.

Nope. My state didn't till last year. I'm guessing others still don't either.

Don't you dare bite Holdors! Freetaxusa and do federal for free and my state took me 15 mins to fill out on paper and mail in and FTUSA backed up my state numbers as a double check.
Total cost, a stamp which I still think is less than a dollar! If you salty bastards cave I'm disappointed you didn't go super cheap.

E-File through the tax software itself? No. If I remember right there is only one state with free e-filing through the tax software itself, and it may be New York. Other states (like mine) have their own tax filing websites where one can file for free, manually. So the workaround in that case is to print out the state tax return from the tax software, and manually key in the values into the state's free website. Saves the $19 or what ever the fee the tax software charges to e-file the state return.

You are still giving FreeTaxUSA [freetaxusa.com] money for the state tax return. They even say so right on the website.

We make money from our state tax return and other optional services. You receive excellent value for every dollar spent.
And typically if something's free it means YOU are the commodity being data mined and sold even if they claim not to share your "personal information".

Good find, but unfortunately it will cost you more in gas trying to find one of those in Target. The online price is max!

Yet at the same time, paying is no guarantee that you aren't still a "commodity being data mined."

Was a holder but I folded for $30 at newegg. Got a lot of things going on this year so hesitant to try freetaxusa. But already discovered a flaw where is penalizing for an IRA RMD

The State included with this software is the calculation of the tax. It does not include the electronic filing of the return for the State although you can for an additional fee. It does include the electronic filing for Federal. I use this software to calculate the State tax. Then I use my State's free filing plugging in the numbers from H&R Block.

They do not sell your information and are not allowed to by IRS regulations. They make money off the state fees, various support upgrades, amendments, etc.

I found it by the checkout kiosk in the electronic section, in one of those cardboard island/towers made to display product.
