Show any threads matching category - "search" doesn't work anymore?

Up until a few days ago it was possible to show threads matching a category, regardless of which subforum the thread was posted under, using an empty search with only filter parameters. Like this:

Now, the above always shows 0 results.
Has something changed?
While it is possible to "browse" instead of "search", that's limited to one subforum at a time and not all of them at once:

it seems to be working for me (showing deals in the power supply category) in both classic and redesign [and even logged out in incognito] on desktop in chrome
On desktop.
In the new design it works, logged in or out.
In the old design it doesn't, logged in (which is required).
I tried changing the IP, same thing.

i was able to replicate this with the additional info. it seems like there may be some changes in the next week or so so this will (hopefully) get resolved in the near future.
Interesting that the new and old designs work so differently, and aren't just skins.
Anyone is having problem with their old search queries?
