From my research Ridgid has the best warranty out there when it comes to tools and batteries and their tools are well made too so for people looking to jump onto a brand for the first time this seems like your best deal/brand.

I've always heard $10 per amp hour for batteries is the sweet spot to buy, so this being under $80 for 8 amp hours of total battery seems like a deal. And yes, the warranty is unmatched!

What is the real world difference between the regular 4ah and the max output?

I live in the Rigid ecosystem and have been happy. I have a Ryobi eTrimmer and it came with 1.5ah battery. It was taking 3x charges to do the whole compound. Fleabay sells adapters so you can use Ridgid batteries on Ryobi tools. I can now do the whole yard with 1+ batteries from my Ridgid set. I saw adapters for DeWalt too.

Repped for OP. You can never have enough 4ah batteries, for this price. I got DirectTool recon battery for $40. No warranty on that so this deal is a bonus!

In my experience it really depends on the tool. If you're running a mid or high torque impact I think it's definitely worth having at least one max output handy. My ridgid mid torque will run decent on standard battery but literally stop when the going gets real tough. When I use a max output or the older octane batteries it keeps hammering no matter what.
