If your garage drops below 40d or so in the winter you will have issues. The thermostat is in the fridge. When the fridge gets above high 30s, the fridge kicks on the compressor to cool the freezer, which exhausts to the fridge. Since the fridge is staying at its slightly above freezing temperature, this cycle never trips, meaning your freezer gets above freezing temperature and things start to thaw.

Garage ready fridges have a heating pad with a thermostat on it that warms the sensor if the temperature outside the garage falls below a certain temperature, or a dedicated sensor in the freezer, to ensure the fridge cycles properly, keeping your freezer items frozen.

For most fridges you can buy a garage ready conversion kit off Amazon/eBay for $10-20 but it requires installing and wiring the pad into the back of your fridge. The heating pad has a sensor on it that turns the heating pad on when the garage temperature falls below ~40 or so. Here's an example (this is NOT for the fridge in this deal, it's just an example https://a.co/d/4BG6gLx )

At least this is how a friend explained it to me who is more knowledgeable on the matter when all the ice cream in my non garage ready fridge in the garage melted last winter, 😂 so take it FWIW. If you don't plan on using the freezer then you should be ok.
I got this fridge from Costco a couple of years ago. I use it in the garage. It's almost a shame as it looks good, quiet and works well. I had zero issues and am impressed with it - easy to clean and space is well laid out. If you're on the fence, just get it, as the tariff threat is going to make it more expensive.

Are you indeed garaging it? Otherwise a tough call. Frequently and currently staying at Hyatt using this fridge and it chills quick, performs well and is quiet. I have no need for a small studio sized fridge, but if I did, this fits the bill.

Sorry, hit comment instead of reply...yeah, don't think this unit is garage-ready, but didn't do a deep dive...

Too bad Costco doesn't offer the 23.8 cu ft version (bought from Lowe's), as I found this model (as good as it is) a bit too small. But this model is a great deal. Consumer Reports generally rates LG refrigerators high for reliability and quality. Always top freezer models for me (fewer breakdowns and most efficient) for kitchen, not garage.

I literally ordered this yesterday for $649.99
Will try to fill out the price adjustment form.
PS I've had the same fridge for 6 years in my other place and it is a great fridge that works just fine.

If your garage drops below ~40 you'll want garage ready. They have a midea garage ready in white at $579.

What does that even mean? Does it need special wiring or something? Always thought a fridge was a fridge...

Laughable someone would downvote this comment. I don't live in a house so how would I know this??
