Dummy question, but does this work as a standalone device like the PSP? Or does it only work if you already own a PS5?

If you pay for their subscription service where you can stream some games you can play those (and only those) remotely over wifi

Bought this over the weekend but didn't post it because every Amazon "like new" condition post I've made in the past has gotten taken down for violating SD terms and conditions. Guess they changed their policy

This is much different from a PSP -- It's basically a "Screen+Controller" combination, it needs an active internet connection to really do anything.

There are a couple ways to use it:
If you have a PS5, you can "remote play" (stream games from your PS5 to it -- n your home, at work, etc..)
If you don't want to use a PS5, you can Stream from the internet if you have a PS+ subscription (some of these are PS1 games, some are modern games). No PS5 required, it runs off the 'cloud' and streams to your portal in real time letting you play games from the internet.

There is no built in storage, so no MP3 Player, Browser, games.. it's essentially useless if there is no internet connection.

It's an interesting device. I don't get any lag at all with it. The fact it can run play PS5 games is a big advantage over being stuck to portable-games powered by the handheld itself. I use it at my desk when I work (from home) to do little things like grind in games between tasks.. It's also useful if you want to play a game but someone else is using the TV (if that's an issue) or if you just want to keep your game going while taking a dump.

With that said, where it kind of fumbles are if you have a poor internet connection it can lag.. and for most big PS5 games, you'll want to play them on a big TV with a sound system and not a 7" streaming device. I wouldn't want to play "The last of us 3" on this, but I wouldn't mind playing Tetris or re-playing The Last of Us on it for a 5th time.

Mine disconnects from my PS5 and is basically unplayable most of the time. Very frustrating. I have 1 gig Verizon fios internet and Amazon eero with 3 stations. Every other WiFi item works in my house no problem with good speeds and no dropouts.

I read the manual to mean on the same wifi network in the home, so I haven't taken it with me on a trip. It would be great if it worked at a hotel (assuming the internet doesn't completely blow). Thanks for putting this out there, now I'll try it on my next trip.

Both my brother and I had one and it just lagged way too much. I even has my PS5 hardwired and no luck. Sony accepted the return. I think Sony knows this is a beta/test product.
