Have an R3 R7 & R8. I didn't see much difference from the 7 to 8 but the 8 does have the ability to add laser jammers (although they are expensive and only through pro install)

The main benefit of the R8 is the Bluetooth capability that allows you to pair with your phone and connect to highway radar app (on Android)

Never used it on my R8, is it that much better than Waze?

I haven't used it either (don't have an R8 or R4) but from what I'm reading it is very good. Allows you to have custom filtering to quiet the detector, you can update settings through the app and the app has police airplane tracking if enforcement in your area uses them. Also it is a lot more customizable than Waze.

R8 is a significant range improvement over the R7. For most, the R7 is enough range but if you live in an area with terrain and cops that use instant on radar, the extra range is important too.

My state pretty much doesn't enforce speeding so no need for this.

I use "R8 companion" and yes- its way different than wayze. Companion and hwy radar integrate the phone on many levels and being able to set notches for band pickups is a game changer!!!!

That's hecka cool, hope some of these features filter down to a little bit lower price point.
I've always wondered if a detector picking up 100% known police could give some directional/locational reporting from various users to indicate likely speed trap locations without manual reports.. but that may just be too damn complex. Maybe triangulation from multiple users could allow it? ha
