Tapo C402 actually has a 2k resolution.
They are most likely using this same model and putting 3 in a box and calling it 2K and charging more. Unethical marketing tactic by TP link.
The benefit of single package is if one goes wrong you do not have to return all three units. However if you are going through TP warranty, they will have you send back only the defective unit. Know that they will send you a refurbished unit. If you want avoid that, buying from costco you could return the entire set and skip the hassle of TP warranty process. One drawback is you have to uninstall all units.
Another suggestion is to take a look at the C120 model. This is wired 2K model with very good performance and reviews. This is ideal for porch or garage or any installations requiring constant power outdoors or indoors. It has a magnetic attachment as one of the options. It's also more compact than C402 offering equal or better performance compared to the wireless model such as C402.

Ok so you have done a mediocre research reading product pages and looking at model numbers quick to sound critical and fault-finding.

Yes please screenshot the clip specs/details of the C402. I couldn't find anything on it being 2k. If they were software locking to downscale before a firmware like you were saying that could be big.
2K (DCI standard for cinema): 2048 × 1080
Although the resolution may be 2K, don't expect 2K quality that you can from a photo camera or video from your mobile device. It's not even close when you compare the two.
What I'd like to add is for the price:
• TC82 and C402 offer a great value especially the TP-Link Tapo SolarCam C402 Kit.
• The mobil app is very well done which rivals with premium priced brands; integrate with all Kasa and Tapo devices.
• Good tech support and responsive warranty communication - email, phone, chat
• Well designed and good construction for the price category

It is also referred to as Tapo MagCam C425 due to its 10,000 mAh battery. It has a domed rear design compared to the flat end.
Ok, TC82 and C402 may not identical and may have slight differences on the resolutions.
What I'd like to emphasize is there is not a significant difference to be paying more for TC82 when you can get C402 for less. Also not having to buy 3 camera at once may be ideal for some.
If anyone is able to provide solid factual data on TC82 superiority over C402, I am willing to admit my error. As of now, they appear to have very near similar specs and there's no point paying more for TC82 as you will not see a clear difference viewing form mobile devices which is the case for most owners.

Can't speak for other battery cameras, but I have a C402 myself & I find the wake-up detection even at maxed out range & sensitivity to be absurdly awful.

Ok perhaps I was a bit harsh saying that it's unethical but it's very confusing for the consumers and misleading.
Lastly, just because many manufactures do things is not justifiable nor acceptable especially when they change the model number on a the same product and price it differently – in this case pricing it higher.
