I bought an Amazon Basics rash guard in the past and they are pretty loose fitting. They're not tight or fitted whatsoever.

Cotton is more comfortable when dry, but it absorbs a lot more water, which makes it much heavier when wet. It also does not air dry quickly, which is the point of a swim shirt.

I've lived in a hot climate for most of my life. I walk my dogs daily and play tennis and have found that I prefer something that absorbs the sweat rather than allows it to run down my body, which I find distracting. Plus I find that polyester, when wet, can cling even more than cotton.
