I'm sure it's been mentioned and buried but extended warranty benefit goes away next month which sucks
Uhh yeah I have an Amex, this is not true lol
I'm sure citi fought hard in the bidding process to beat Amex to get the Costco account. Part of the terms were probably to offer better benefits for the customer....

Edit (11/19/2019): I appreciate the dozens of responses I got in 2019, but this post is nearly four years old and was written when the card was just being released with bare amounts of information. I have since received all my answers, signed up for this card, and have signed up for 15+ other credit cards since.. haha. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this information. I like the 3% cash back on restaurants and 4% cash back on gas.
Is there another credit card without an annual fee that offers higher than 3% cash back on restaurants?
With this being managed by Citi, do others also think that we can generate virtual credit card numbers for this card?
Tofu Vic
US Bank Visa Go offers 4% cash back for restaurants, takeout, and delivery.
Citi Custom Cash Card offers 5% cash back for top spending category including restaurants.
3% is not high at all for free cards.
This post reminded me to close my Citi/Costco card account. Almost zero benefits remaining, ending the extended warranty protection was the last straw. Much better cards out there.

Exactly. I stopped using mine. Instead I use the Chase Freedom or Discover when they have their quarterly 5% CB at wholesale clubs. Other times I use the Redstone FCU Visa which gives 3% CB at Costco.
Only reason I haven't cancelled the card is I am yet to receive my rewards check for last year, and I still have another year of extended warranty left on a couple of high value items. Will cancel as soon as that passes.
I was told the extended warranty for items purchased before the change will still be in effect for the warranty period even if your card is canceled.
Please advise if you heard anything different.
Since when do they offer a cashout option for the rebate check? you've always been able to go in-club, buy some random thing and cash out the balance, but now there's an actual cash out option.
"Redeeming your certificate is easy! Since you've earned more than $300 in cash back rewards, you're eligible to redeem your certificate for a direct deposit. After you receive your certificate, simply log in to your account via Citi® Online or the Citi Mobile® App* and visit the Rewards Detail page. To redeem for cash or merchandise, just present your certificate at any U.S. Costco warehouse, including Puerto Rico."
It's worth it for me. Also not just getting the reward certificates, but their organic stuff or certain items i buy are cheaper and overall saves me more than my $120 exec membership that i signed up for the past 3 yrs. The RAOS marina sauce is like 9 bucks for two-pk when on sale. I buy the max limit of 5 which is like $20 saved already. Other stores are more expensive than when Costco has them for normal prices. Last year i got $125 in certificate, year before that $102, and first year of the exec membership i got $140.
Plus the gas is cheaper than any of the stations near my house. Best of all Costco is only a 10 minute drive from my house.

Sorry for the late reply. The Citi rewards was always able to cash out without necessary buying something. Just had to go to membership/refund desk. They recently changed it to direct deposit last year I believe.
The costco 2% executive check on the other hand, you have to use to it to pay for something. I normally just get a banana for $2 and get refunded the difference.
Took two weeks to get the card and then they locked it for another two weeks for security reasons when I tried to add it to my apple wallet. Citi customer service is a nightmare. Not worth the hassle.

I have this card, had it for some time. Story is that Citi fought hard to win the bid from Costco, and is losing money / not making enough in the process. This makes me terribly happy, as Citi has been the worst bank I have worked with across two organizations in the past 8 years.

Also, getting those sweet rewards feels great. Costco gas is arguably the cheapest gas in any major populated area.

This card is a nobrainer.

Why is this ancient thread about an old credit card on the front page? I have this card and there's nothing great about it. I use it for restaurants when the rotating 5% cards aren't a better deal.
I just signed up for CapitalOne SavorOne which is always 3% on restaurants and don't have to play the Costco Rebate certificate game with them.

If you shop at Costco for all of your groceries, the extra 2% may be worth it.

thats crazy.. they are one the best!!
You think they are losing money on a card that charges 20% interest or more for people who don't pay their cards in full? 🤣

I wish the Costco card was still AmEx

You can't use Amex at Costco anymore. I am not sure if you can even use a MasterCard. You can use any visa though
