I'm sure it's been mentioned and buried but extended warranty benefit goes away next month which sucks
Uhh yeah I have an Amex, this is not true lol
I'm sure citi fought hard in the bidding process to beat Amex to get the Costco account. Part of the terms were probably to offer better benefits for the customer....

Also it's good to know for Chase Freedom card holders that they will be giving 5% CB at wholesale clubs through the rest of 2016. Can't go wrong with that!
I don't find anything on this on their web site. Was this an email?

If you have a Chase Freedom Visa card and haven't seen the other thread, they're offering 5% cashback for wholesale clubs. It was only for this quarter (ending June 30th), but they extended it until the end of the year.

Compared to Citi Costco Visa's 2% rate, it's a nice jump. However, please note that it's capped at $1,500 ($75 cashback) for each quarter and gas purchases do not earn 5% CB (you can always buy Costco gift cards with 5% CB and use those for gas, of course).

I have a question if anyone here can answer it. The new Costco Citi Visa will give you 3% at restaurants. Does this include small local restaurants/cafes?

In my experience with other cards, it depends on how the establishment is listed in their database regardless of its size.

as long as they are coded as restaurant, and most of them should be.

Since the Costco Visa gives us 4% back on gas, it's not worth the 1% marginal difference to mess with the giftcard for gas, to me. What does make sense, though, is to use your Chase Freedom card to buy a Costco gift card at the end of the quarter, to make sure you get that full $75 cashback. Then use that gift card in the next quarter (when the Chase promotion expires.. I only see it for Q3, not the rest of the year). I did that at Amazon when they were 5 or 10%.

Oh, and the Chase Freedom deal is 5% on up to $1500 at restaurants and warehouse clubs combined. Otherwise I'd be getting 3% and 2%, respectively. So the biggest advantage is to use all $1500 at Costco, if I'm going to max it out. Though looking at my last year's spending, it would take me almost a year to spend $1500 at Costco. So bottom line, I'll just use it in Q3 for both Costco and restaurants, and then get a gift card near the end to pad my total.

I think I read this in the flyers that came with the new Costco card but just wanted to verify:

My Costco AMEX billing cycle started on the 12th of each month.
If I have charges between the 12th & 19th - do I pay AMEX or Citi for those charges?

You pay Citi. Everything (balances, credit limits, cash back earned) was forwarded to Citi.

That's what I thought.,...BUT then I saw this on the transition FAQ page here [citi.com]& caused a pause:

When do I start sending my payments to Citi instead of American Express?

When you receive a statement from American Express please send your payment to American Express by mail, phone, or online. When you receive a statement from Citi, please send your payment to the address in your statement or make a payment online once you register for Citi® Online.

Yeah, when I logged into AmEx this morning, my old card wasn't listed. When I logged into Citi, they had balance carried over. I even had a statement balance (closed a few days ago, due in early July), that I paid to Citi.

I see my cashback transferred over also, as promised.

If your AmEx billing cycle closed before the deadline, you pay AmEx. But if you are mid-cycle, your charges have been forwarded to Citi and you will pay Citi.

Link is up to apply on costco.com now. [costco.com]

Legal on rewards:

Quote :
Redeeming Costco Cash Rewards: Your reward is distributed annually via U.S. Mail in the form of a reward coupon included in your February billing statement, and is redeemable through December 31 of the year issued in a single transaction at any U.S. Costco warehouse, including in Puerto Rico, for merchandise or cash back. The reward coupon will contain your Costco Cash Rewards balance based on your eligible purchases during the annual reward period. The annual reward period is based on January through December billing statements. Should you choose to redeem only a portion of the coupon for merchandise, you will receive the remaining balance in cash at the Costco warehouse register upon checkout. Some warehouses may not permit the reward coupon to be redeemed for alcohol purchases. Requests for cash may be fulfilled in the form of a check at Costco's discretion. If you are enrolled in Paperless Statements, a paper billing statement will be provided to you in February if you earned a reward coupon during the previous annual reward period. Coupon must be redeemed in person on or prior to its expiration date of December 31 in the year in which it is issued. Any Costco Cash Rewards you have earned on purchases made by authorized users on your Card Account will be added to your Costco Cash Rewards Total. Only you, the primary cardmember, are eligible to receive the annual reward coupon, however, you or any authorized user on your Card Account may redeem your coupon. You may not transfer it to anyone else. You will not receive a reward coupon if your reward is less than $1 or your account is closed at the time it is scheduled to be sent; any Costco Cash Rewards that had been accrued at that time will be forfeited. You must maintain your Costco Membership to receive and redeem the reward coupon.
So it is only usable at Costco, but you can make a purchase and cash out the remainder? Am I reading that right?

That's how the AmEx one always worked.
