If you need a 4k monitor then this is not the one.
It's hard to go apples to apples.

This is OLED and it's a wider aspect ratio. You're giving up height and getting width. But this is an OLED panel - deeper blacks and better contrast/color representation, generally, than a similar LED.

4k is higher resolution and will improve some things - but you'll be able to run this monitor at a higher refresh rate and that will improve motion and perception of quality. 4K is hard for most graphics cards to push.

FWIW, I had the Samsung G7 4K monitor and returned it and replaced with this. I much prefer this from a picture quality standpoint.
Too bad cant use 10% email signup coupon but there is currently 18% CB and various AMEX offers..

Seems like Black Friday is always generally the best time to buy Alienware monitors.

I believe I saw a $120 off $600+ purchase mentioned somewhere as well.

Anybody know what the best cashback and offers stack up would be for this?

I got myself an Amex card in anticipation of Black Friday, to get this Alienware monitor.

But looks like I don't have any Dell offers. Neither the $40 off $200 or $120 off $600.

Pretty bummed.

With the 18% cashback, it brings it down to around the same price (i.e. ~$660) as it was earlier this year. Difference is is there's now a $100 gift card, but people in the 38" Alienware thread I think are saying they are fighting dell for that gift card supposedly.
I would always take a screen shot showing the e-gift card. I didn't see the gift card in the cart or checkout process which is worrisome. Maybe I wasn't looking in the right spot. Let me know. But the $100 egift card is shown on the product page.

Also, was the $660 price for the aw3423dwf in this thread or the older aw3423dw? Because I have seen the aw3423dw for cheaper but the aw3423dwf has the ability to get firmware updates.

EDIT: Oh, the $660 price was for refurb units. These are brand new. The refurbs only come with a 90 day warranty. These new ones come with 3 year warranties. That's HUGE.

Nevermind, looks like I was wrong. That previous deal was for this same model BUT it was for a refurb unit from dell for $655. That was in February. I've also seen used ones at best buy for mid-$600, but that's probably a crapshoot too (quality wise).

So yeah, this is as good as it's probably going to get. I may as well buy now.

Will post back if I have any issues with the $100 gift card.

Wasn't able to use the Amex offers, as I didn't have them, but had a 5% offer with my Chase Freedom card. So I guess that's something.

I bit. $120 off $600 from Amex + $143 (18%) from RQ-10 cashback brings this down to $536 + tax.

Brand new plus 3yr warranty is a win.

For gaming would this be better or would a true 4K monitor look better? I've watched a few gaming monitor reviews and there are so many options I'm lost lol

I personally prefer ultra wide over 4k. This is a 21:9 ratio, 1440 horizontal lines. 4k is 16:9, 2k vertical lines. Dont ask me why we collectively chose to use vertical lines for this resolution. Stupid marketers. Anyway, 2k is more than 1440, but I think the aspect ratio of 21:9 is more immersive in a lot of titles, especially anything with sprawling landscapes like Witcher or Horizon. It makes FPS games look better too, with titles like Doom taking full advantage of extra widths.

There are a couple of caveats: some titles, particularly indie, do not support 21:9 and will render 16:9, inserting black bars in the empty space. Also, some competitive titles do not handle wide screens well. I am not sure if this has changed but for example Overwatch, for some stupid reason actually zooms in on the image to make it fill the screen. They probably do that to avoid giving wide monitors an advantage, but it actually cuts on vertical FOV in the other direction.

FYI you can use 2 different AMEX cards at check out, assuming you have 120 off 600 and another with 40 off 200... Wish I had a card with 40 off 200...

If you want this for gaming, this monitor is the literal definition of cheating.

It has .03 ms response time, that's already faster than any non OLED panel.

It has Alienvision, that can remove fog, generate heat maps, or brighten key areas of a scene.

It also has the standard hip fire crosshairs option built in.

Also, rtings included this in their burnin tests, the thing was on CNN for like 6 months straight and didn't have even a hint of Burnin.
