Much of the low end frequency spectrum is felt due to room pressurization not due to hearing it. That is why some subs go below hearing range. it is quite noticable when your sub is not able to go that low and you are missing thatsignal information.
.. for when you really want to punish your neighbors. Get into subwoofer wars.
This thing gets so low I almost regret getting it. It's not in a room fully treated for it, so when it gets going, things in the room rattle, so many rattles, so I turn it down, but then the audible and barely subsonic frequencies aren't as strong as I'd like. I could eq it, but then I'd feel like I was wasting money by no utilizing its potential.

Well considering the human ear can only pick up frequencies down to 20hz, what's the point getting it to play below that? Except if you're trying to communicate with blue whales, or just like the vibrations, frequencies that low shouldn't be high on anyone's priority list. Very very few noises below even 35 or 30 are even enjoyable (even thats debatable) It's more of a bragging rights thing. Like my Ferrari can go 240 type flex. Unless you like listening to natural sounding massive pipe organs or Natural Thunderclaps in nature. What's the point of having a speaker play that low? The human ear can only hear between 20hz all the way through to 20k hertz. nothing below and nothing over those 2 numbers are even audible to the human ear.

This. The 16" kilpsch hits lower, has a better warranty, and looks nicer.

I was vert skeptical of isolated feet for my subs, but they worked very well. I was getting rattling of my windows and walls. This fixed that problem. Amazon has them for $49 for a set.

Try SVS Isolated feet. I was vert skeptical of isolated feet for my subs, but they worked very well. I was getting rattling of my windows and walls. This fixed that problem. Amazon has them for $49 for a set.

Are the SVS puck-style feet tall enough to lift the Klipsch wiper blade-style feet completely off the ground? Trying to visualize how this would work as it seems like the stock feet would still touch carpet.

Also, the rubber klipsch blades already seem like they dampen quite a bit. You already have a down vote so I'm not the only skeptical one.

You don't enjoy watching your windows flex when you play bass I love you? I guess this sub needs a special owner.

Can someone smarter than me on home audio comment how this would compare price and performance-wise against an Ultimax 18 with a 1kW plate amp and a home built enclosure? Excluding labor, seems like cost of materials is pretty close.
For what it's worth, you can compare CEA2010 measurements of both here. Keep in mind this is for a SEALED UM18-22. The klipsch is ported. They are actually pretty even with the Klipsch having a slight edge and less distortion at 12.5-25hz. In reality, none of this really matters to most people because they are both insanely powerful subs and you won't be listening anywhere near those levels. A ported UM18-22 in a Marty enclosure would destroy the Klipsch, but it's physically MASSIVE. Not worth it.

I run dual UM18-22's with a NX6000 amp sending 1300w/ea in small sealed enclosures and I can hit 95decibels flat to 10hz in a massive 40x15 room, which is good enough for me.

I always recommend two or more subwoofers and a MiniDSP to tune them. DSP with mutliple subs will make the most difference. You can't get even sound with just one sub. It's almost impossible.

For the price, dual 16 inch klipsch is very tempting. But I prefer the flexibility of DIY. I can always swap mine to ported enclosures if I want to destroy the house.

If you're just buying one, go with the Klipsch. It's easier and will perform better with just one. If you plan to sell, you'll also get your money back.

Little knowledge on speakers. Is anything else needed to go with this subwoofer?

You need a long weekend so you can enjoy this subwoofer. Feel free to place some paper with a paper weight in front of the port and see what happens at the subsonic frequencies. Within 1-2 ft will do.

"Will this crack our walls?" - My wife while watching a movie with me

This is a serious sub... it's not a "get for your apartment" sub. I have this in my basement theater room and I'm quite certain my neighbors can feel it despite the fact that I only have it on 6 or 7.

Totally depends on what you mean. You obviously need to send a signal to the sub.... so you'll need something with an LFE (or "subwoofer") out. Usually if you're using a sub like this you've got a receiver that can do this. You also obviously need "normal" speakers for 99% of the sound... unless you're looking just for "thump thump thump" and nothing else.

Nope, not even close. Your body can still feel what your ear cannot hear. Also, your room and house can feel it. If you don't want your room to shake... more power to you. Those of us with a sub like this do.

(Also, you're generalizing a LOT with what the human body can and cannot do. Plenty of people can hear down to 12 hz [wikipedia.org] and higher than 20 Khz... but apparently not in your world.)

some incorrect information in your post.

klipsch warranty is shorter than HSU. klipsch is 2 years (Electronics) / 5 years on driver. HSU warranty is longer with 2 years (Electronics) / 7 years on the driver. customer service is also much better with HSU.

as far as frequency response they are right about the same. klipsch goes down to 14Hz (+/- 3dB, while the HSU is rated at 17Hz (+/- 2dB) so a tighter range.

looks wise that is a personal preference, but the HSU wins on form factor with a much more compact case (Width and depth). HSU are great subs for the money.

The reference premier subs have a 5 year warranty for everything.
