This would make a nice amp for a hi-fi stereo setup with a turntable or network player; just add two floor standing speakers.

It would also make a nice 2.1 home theater setup with two bookshelf speakers and a sub. Would outperform nearly all soundbars.

I love the A-S series from Yamaha. Great vintage look and amazing sound quality. Build quality is also great.

This is an integrated amp. Old school stereo (2 channel left/right). It will sound awesome for music. I would love one.
But I don't think it is the right system to start with if you will be putting in a home theatre surround system with many speakers (2 front, 2 surround and center, or more ). I am no expert , and maybe you have some cool plan for this that is beyond my knowledge, but I did not think this integrated amp is best suited for home theater.

Bought this amp from Amazon for the same price six years ago. Was considered a good deal even back then but now, with these recent inflationary price increases across the board this is an outstanding deal! Very good, powerful amp!
P.s. Also note that if you buy this amp in silver, you will have a hard time buying matching (silver) components from Yamaha, as they don't exist in this price bracket in the US.

This or Sonos amp for a 2.1 setup in smallish room?

(No other Sonos or Yamaha equipment yet).

Fantastic amp...I've had the little brother as501 for about 6 years now and couldn't be happier for a 2.1 system. I have it paired with a audioengine b1 Bluetooth reciever, techniques 1200sl, cds 301, 2x warfdale diamond speakers and a kennmore elite 10" sub.

How would you make this capable of streaming via wifi? Like Spotify casting? I'd consider this if there were a cheap option, like the old Chromecast audio.

This, with a set of RB42 and a room appropriate SUB would be fire.

So when I said I wanted to start one, of course I need a receiver first. Thanks for your suggestion of the obvious.
