You may need to change the paper type setting to thicker paper or a label stock so it runs through the fuser slower. That will help the toner adhere to the labels better.
I've had this printer for about a year. Generic toner prices have been coming down now that the printer has been on the market a little while. I have used this toner recently. It's a bit over $100 for a full set.

I have this printer, and it works great with my Apple devices. The duplex-scanning feature is handy. I don't often print in color, but it is nice to have that option when I need it. The only issue I had was when printing shipping labels on Avery labels. The print isn't as sharp as it is on regular paper, and ink seems to smudge a bit. Other than that, it is a great printer.

Never buy a Canon.
I'm looking for a printer similar to this. Why do you say to avoid Canon?

I just bought all 4 cartridges for $80 on Amazon, but I have not yet tried them out. Not sure if there are better deals.

FYI, bhphoto also price matched.
Not sure if other sites can price match and combine with some CB site. Or if Dell and Lenovo can price match with Amex or Chase offer.

I always appreciate a first hand review, so let me add a quick one. I bought this printer on sale in June-2023. I'm still on the original toner, but I'm not a heavy user. I recently bought third-party replacement cartridges and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that those will work fine.

I love the print quality, double sided printing and duplex scanning. It was easy to set up and has been very easy to use with my Mac or my iPhone. I agree with Spock1234, it does have a tendency to smudge for me when printing darker graphics. Overall I would not hesitate to buy again.

I print like once every two weeks, sometimes not for a month. I'm so tired of inkjets getting clogged. I even refill them myself and when they are working they work great, but even new cartridges dry up after a month. And then I have to soak them in hot water to unclog them, just a pain.

Even though these are much more expensive I think I might have to go the laser route. And when I print it doesn't have to be photo quality.

Does anyone know if this printer has any kind of anti-3rd party toner protections on it? I'm comparing this with the Brother mfc-l3780cdw but I'm told that one has new protections on it that haven't been defeated yet.

I'd love to stay loyal to Brother, but I dislike locking down toner. I currently have an hl-l2340d b/w

(For now consider price not a factor)

Others said they have tried 3rd party but, I haven't so I can't say for sure 100%. What I can tell you is that there is a lot of settings and customization for this printer. 2 of these are the ability to let you print even though toner says it is low and the other is to enable Canon Genuine Check. This means you should be able to disable both of these so you can use your toner for longer (print quality may not be as good) as well as non Canon toner.
