This is exactly what we did lol! 3 months of preschool for the kiddo paid ahead and then paid it off. Although we have been having some trouble trying to redeem the points on the app…..
I do that regularly with the Amex Delta cards. If I know I won't be using the companion ticket of the Platinum level, I will downgrade. Typically less than 6months later they offer the same upgrade and full points to me again.

When you pay the card in Citi's app it shows your available balance increase immediately upon payment. 98% of the time transactions and payments post in the normal 1-3 days.
