Thin, light, great battery life, runs cool and quiet. Powerful enough CPU and iGPU for mostly everything I'd need to do on it. Intel means no compatibility issues. Good port selection, and 1TB of storage is plenty. Plus 32GB RAM which I think is worth the upgrade from 16GB in (nearly) 2025.
Oled screen is nice although yes I do wish it was higher refresh rate or higher resolution. Vivobook build quality seems good enough but nothing special when it comes to the keyboard and trackpad.
Haven't seen any good deals on lunar lake with 32GB RAM yet, this is the first one under $1000 to my knowledge.
I haven't bought tech from Staples before. Only 14 day return window according to the website.
EDIT: Staples has returns until Jan 11 for the holidays.
"During the holiday season, we are extending our regular 14–day electronic and furniture return policy to permit customers to return products that may be purchased as gifts.
For purchases made in our Staples Stores, by phone, or on Staples.com, any electronic or furniture products, which usually fall within the 14–day return policy, purchased between November 17, 2024 and December 24, 2024 may be returned until January 11, 2025 or as regular policy allows, whichever is later."

However, after obsessively researching and comparing various CPUs/battery life/performance reviews from every source I can find, what I've concluded is: Lunar Lake is slightly more powerful than the older 125U, has similar battery life, and much better graphics. Lunar Lake actually has surprisingly low multi-core performance because they're tuned for efficiency.
So if you're not a gamer and want the dollar store version of Lunar Lake, just buy an older laptop with the 125U. It'll be $300-400 cheaper and you get similar daily functionality. That's my cheap-arse strategy.
The Just Josh Youtube channel came to the same conclusion in their detailed review of Lunar Lake in which they compared it to all the other platforms and measured things like power efficiency, benchmarks, etc.

The improved integrated GPU is also a nice recent trend by Intel.
