After a night of drinking, be aware that one end of these is easier to tip than the other. I know a guy. Ha ha.

Bearing all weight on 6 somewhat small points, I'd imagine these would wear away quickly at a tarp tent floor. Any experiences?

Somewhat bulky and heavy. I prefer an air mattress + a sleeping bag.

Use your plates to distribute the weight?

Yes, as typically a tent is on a natural outdoor surface. But you could easily take some wood or metal plates or strips and apply under the cot.

Reviews are concerning

As FYI, the newer Ozark Trail zipper cots for $45 are IMO worth the difference in cost -- we got a set to replace some Coleman cots that took up far too much space in the car and they've worked great.

  • Advantages:
    • 10 points of contact with the ground vs. 6
      • Each end is supported directly, so you're less likely to tip over
      • More points of contact means less wear on your tent floor
    • 6x6.4x19.4" when folded vs. 6.3x11x41"
    • 11lbs vs. 13lbs
    • Tension is distributed more evenly vs. having tight spots near the points of support and sagging in between
  • Disadvantages:
    • Slightly smaller bed area
    • Weight limit is only 300lbs vs. 350lbs
