If you view the recent feedback the seller has received on this account, its enough negative to make me uncomfortable purchasing from this seller. So... it's a no for me.
It's trash. I would not recommend anything less than a $250 reflector for beginners. 6 months ago I would have pointed you to Orion Telescopes but sadly they shut down in July.
A buddy of mine bought a high end Meade (I think) with handheld controller and auto-tracking a few years back; seems I remember it was $6,000 or so. It was big and transporting it was a bit precarious due to its size, weight, and fragility. He and his wife would go out to the lakeside outside of town a few nights a month to stargaze with minimal light pollution. After a year or so they grew weary of it and donated that expensive reflector telescope to the local museum for patron use. Lesson learned, and a reminder that starting small in a hobby that you may not enjoy long-term is a good idea.

You do you, but I've had great luck with VIP over the years and have made some stellar deals with them including a brand new iPhone SE3 recently. I might hesitate on used or open box, but not with brand new merch, which is likely still factory sealed.

VIP Outlet is a massive retailer on Ebay that sells lots of electronics, which can bring negative reviews. I've personally bought from them several times over the years, and it's been great.

I linked Celestron's product page in the description, which has a lot of reviews and photos. While this is a relatively inexpensive and entry level telescope, it's fairly capable for the money spent and comes with a nice accessory package. I doubt you'll find anything nicer at this price point. The kiddos or beginner astronomy buff will likely be wowed.
Also makes for a decent budget spotting scope for those who hunt the mountains and valleys, so long as you're not packing it too far. Those who frequent outdoor shooting ranges will likely have use for it as well.

It's probably fine at this price. If you have a healthy interest in space and know you want to get into the hobby then probably makes sense to get something better.
This would be good for under $250. But whole different price point....

I beg to differ. Astronomy is not for everyone. Long term and dedicated backyard amateur astronomers are rare. Why spend a fortune not knowing whether beginners will stick around. I remembered then wanting to buy a 10" Celestron, Meade, or Maksutov-Cassegrain. I am glad I didn't. As the years went by, my time dedicated to astronomy was very limited.

we got this a couple of years ago. was kind've fun for one or two nights with our two young kids to look at the full moon, but not much you can do with it besides that. may be good to gauge interest for a much better telescope. ours has been stored in the closet since the first week or two we bought it

I have this telescope. I mainly bought it to carry in the motorhome. It's the first one that I've ever purchased. First use was out west in an area that has very dark skies. I also purchased an accessory kit with multiple eye pieces and filters. With those accessories I was able to locate three planets. I could barely make out Saturn's ring. Haven't had much luck in my backyard besides checking out the moon.
