this has been $99 forever except for when it dipped to $89 a couple months ago
Maybe be careful?
If you don't need speed but want nice capacity then this is a great buy. I have several that I store video on and even after years they all work well. I also have a 16GB Passport for Plex and after a year and 12GB+ on 24/7 it's still going strong as well.

I bought it for my Tablo 4th.
It doesn't need speed to record OTA programing, but I need the capacity for sure.
I wonder if these Passport HDD are higher quality than theirWD Elements drives since this one has 3 year warranty vs 2.

Is this shuckable? Does anyone know the dimensions of the drive inside? I've read that WD 2.5'' drives are physically larger than normal 2.5'' drives--anyone know?

Chances are it's not. I've seen similar models(same case design but black) taken apart. The drive itself has a micro b connector in place of the SATA.

Keep in mind, these drives are SMR.

It is not shuckable. As I understand it, all the modern WD external 2.5" drives are USB, not SATA drives with a USB bridge. Seagate might be another story.

What are you calling a "normal" 2.5" drive? There are multiple standards, with 9.5mm and 7.5mm being the most common. In any case, 2.5" drives of this capacity are always taller.

FYI as a cheaper option Western Digital has an eBay store in which they are selling a bunch of refurbished HDD. When combined with the 20% off ebay coupon (NEWYEAR20) , you can get a Passport 4TB HDD for $70, like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/29613504...media=COPY.

My problem with these drives that I dropped two of them while they are still spinning. Instant caput.
Prefer smaller size solid state drives now
Maybe be careful?

When did the drop happen? Never noticed. This is the best price I have seen.

Why are you even carrying these around while they're powered up, platter spinning and head/arm engaged?!?

Can these work as life sync drivers?
