Agreed. You can make it simple recipe of:

13 ounces of water into a bottle fitted with a spray nozzle.
4 tablespoons of Dawn Dish Soap or another soap of your choice.
2 tablespoons of rubbing alcohol.
Gently mix, swirling the bottle to mix the formula together.

I tend to add a bit more rubbing alcohol which helps a bit when trying to clean the grease of a BBQ grill grate, but you can make whatever adjustments you want.
Dawn changed the scent last year. The old blue scent (unchanged since the 1970s) was replaced with this Fresh / Fresh Clean / Fresh Rain scent. It vaguely smells like Fabreeze. The smell stays on your hands and dishes and is awful.
You can still find Unscented and Lemon scented Dawn (which is faint, and doesn't linger) at Walmart and Target.

This is a great deal, but look online how to make your own! It literally takes 10 seconds and most people have all the stuff at home... cost is like 70 cents per liter

Imagine thinking WD-40 smells terrible. I'm sorry you lead a miserable life.

Used this at my brother's house over Christmas. Smells absolutely terrible. Do not buy unless you already hate the smell of your dishes, or if you need a new reason for your wife to yell at you.

So is this a good price for the starter bottle? Or should I try to dumpster dive this. I've seen the recipe before, and I will go that route.

Saw this by someone on reddit:

Why do people repeat this easily debunked statement, Powerwash is more powerful at degreasing because it has more degreasing agents. Denatured alcohol is the first ingredient in ALL Dawn.

Dawn Platinum

Alcohol Denatured, C10-16 Alkyldimethylamine Oxide, C9-11 Pareth-8, Colorants, Deceth-8, Fragrances, Methylisothiazolinone, PEI-14 PEG-24/PPG-16 Copolymer, Phenoxyethanol, PPG-26, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate, Water

Dawn Powerwash

Alcohol Denatured, C10-16 Alkyldimethylamine Oxide, Dipropylene Glycol Butyl Ether, Ethanolamine, Fragrances, Hexyl Ethoxylate, Lauryl Glucoside, Phenoxyethanol, PPG-26, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Xylensulfonate, Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate, Water

Dipropylene glycol butyl ether solvent, ability to dissolve a wide range of substances

Ethanolamine a starting material for manufacturing surfactants, chelating agents

Hexyl Ethoxylate an alcohol

Lauryl glucoside a plant-based surfactant

Sodium xylenesulfonate Hydrotropic solvent

It's the alcohol. I make my own and add a couple drops of essential oil.
