Great deal even without customizable specialized firmware from Merlin. With all due respect to Merlin, his customized firmware is insignificant and unnecessary for the majority of users
No,I tried today. The coupon not working with on sale product
That's unfortunate as there is no where in the terms that stipulate sale items are excluded. In fact the terms are:
Quote
:
Recycle and save
In store only
Get 15% off a new modem, router or modem/router combo and Geek Squad® Home Wi-Fi Setup service when you bring in any of these devices for recycling. Simply take your old networking device to Customer Service in a Best Buy store, and you'll receive a coupon for 15% off the current price of a networking device or whole-home networking system, plus 15% off Geek Squad Home Wi-Fi Setup.
Key term above is 'current'. I wager this is easily arguable if you had asked for a manager.
I observed this in the Amazon reviews- "Customers have issues with the router's connectivity. They mention it drops WiFi connections, and overall its WiFi is slower than their previous router. IoT devices won't stay connected, and the router has a lot of connection issues. It causes VPN connections to disconnect and run through their native network. The wired connection stops abruptly and the app has disconnected.

Has anyone here had a similar or different ,experience with this router?

I actually owned this router for about a week. It has tri-band connectivity with MLO (Multi-Link Operation). I didn't have any connection issues to speak of. I was getting around 800 Mbps download from a 1 Gb internet connection from around 30 feet away with several walls. For $220, I think it would be an excellent pickup.
I returned it (Amazon) because the 5Ghz band only does 2x2:2 instead of 4x4:4 like most other routers in the $300 range when I bought it. I previously used the RT-AX86U with Merlin firmware. I might try the RT-BE86U even though it is only dual band. It has 4x4:4 on the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz bands and has Merlin support or roll with my own OPNSense miniPC. The reasons I returned it aren't because it's a bad product (especially at $220), but because I was looking for something different. For a set it and forget it router, I would buy it.
Issues with router reported here[asus.com]. I want to buy this router as I have the old tmobile asus router but this new router seems unstable, per many comments. This is a great price which makes me want to try it.
The manager could (and should) have overwritten the net selling price. You got a bad one if they didn't.
I tried and they wouldn't do it. Tried complaining customer service, chat, and now will explore other options. Best buy can be a terrible store I'm guessing depending on where you live.
I just got rejected for an old router with the employee saying that they didn't carry my router and that I didn't buy it from Best Buy. It was a router from spectrum. I didn't have time to argue because I was on lunch break.
Have Asus RT-AC5300 running Merlin. Set it to reboot every Sunday night. Didn't bother upgrading firmware. Still running 6-7 year old firmware. It is rock steady.

They have the BE96U, but not the BE92U.

The manager add the coupon. But the full price didn't change in computer. The 15% coupon show 0 discount

Set it up last night, was getting great speeds and low latency. Right before lunch, the entire network goes down. Had to physically reboot it.
This is not my first ASUS router but it's the first that I had to reboot on Day 1 lol
Damn you, Synology, for being so damn slow with embracing new wireless tech
