Seems like it is YMMV for store availability. At least 3 stores around me have these in stock at this posted clearance price. As for the price, it maybe the best price currently available but it has gone down to $80 before. So if someone is not in a rush it may hopefully go down to that price again.

Why is Onyx 8 out of stock everywhere since last year but Onyx 7 is still available?

Anyone have experience with this vs the Kardon Go+ Play that was recently $128?

Yeap, I do, I do!
The Go + Play 3 is larger with a bigger subwoofer, which is located on the bottom. Both are good though, very crisp and prominent bass but it doesn't overwhelm midrange or treble. The Onyx 7 is bluetooth 4.2, the Go + Play 3 has bluetooth 5.2. If you rewind a track, the Onyx 7 has a very short delay and misses the first note of a song. That doesn't happen with the Go + Play 3. Although very minor, this was the only fault I could find. The Onyx 7 I would consider slightly more portable but both are good for in house portability, not traveling.

These Onyx units are commonly discounted to $100-130 during the year. New models are higher upon release but you can find both new and refurbs at the $100-130 range often. IMO, all the Onyx speakers are great with some having slight advantages over the others. They sound best plugged in but are portable. I moved to Sonos and haven't used my Onyz since but recommend them often to friends.

Thanks for the detailed answer. Sounds like the Go+ is worth it mainly for BT 5.2 IMO.

Hopefully it goes back on sale.

I got one as part of AT&T Fiber promo last year and it has a very clean crisp sound…great bass as well. Recommended!

I picked one up locally, they had quiite a few on display. It sounds real good imo. On AC power playing thru bluetooth, I compared the Studio 7 to my old Beats by Dre, that only works on AC power. It seemed a little fuller with more bass than the B.b.D. though the Beats is nice and crisp on the treble. Volume wise seemed pretty equal to me. Neither speaker broke up at max volume on the music I was listenening to. I think its a fair deal at under $90 right now.

DO NOT PURCHASE - I bought these on the 2 for $199 deal. THIS IS THE REVIEW YOU COME TO THE COMMENTS FOR.
cons:
  • extremely bass or extremely flat depending on the HIDDEN SETTING. Bass is extremely muddled, I can't use it with many podcasts at all. Sounds like peanuts characters
  • Can only connect to two Bluetooth devices
  • Can only store memory on two Bluetooth devices: WHAT THIS MEANS: you must go to the unit and press the factory reset button to erase the memory of the two Bluetooth devices stored in its memory, to be able to add new ones. Sometimes this farks shit up.
  • The Bluetooth sometimes does not connect. It's well documented all over the Hk forums.
  • If you have a friend or family member who is trying to be helpful and plugs in a USB-C power adaptor into the slot, thinking that's another way to charge the device, you will brick it
  • It really doesn't get that loud, and the quality at low volumes is poor. Did I mention it's all bass?
  • Daisy chaining it with another HK means it's using its one other slot for a Bluetooth device.
  • The aux input is noticeably worse audio quality than the bluetooth
