For the alcohol, what strength do you use? 70%?
I can personally attest that it doesn't work as well, but it's much cheaper to make and can still be dispensed through the sprayer nozzles. I'm always experimenting but I think the magic is in the process moreso than the ingredients.
This is the at home equivalent of the various chemicals/ingredients used in the in plant manufacturing process. Been using this recipe for years and it hits the mark for our cleaning needs

Yes, 70%. Used 91% a few times and the smell was too harsh for us
Two items to note (just in case π):
1. We had same initial experience. It sucked. But then I started using warm water and making sure I used a very liberal four tablespoons of the soap. Could even try a fifth. It made a difference and thickened the spray
2. I made sure to mix everything together, when ingredients all in measuring cup, before I poured it back in the spray bottle. This also (very surprisingly) made a difference for us.
YMMV - after experimenting a few small changes, we got something that works and saves us $$$ on this stuff

Great tips, I'll definitely try them out. I've always had a feeling the devil would be in the details making this stuff & based on your experience it seems more likely than ever. π
No problem, happy to help! You might even find a better way to do it than me (ex: adding essential oils, etc).
Best of luck if you give it another go
