I already own this game, and it's fantastic. It's in early access still, but the dev team has consistently added new content. Even when I bought it several years ago it was worth $20. Now that is an even better price for what the game offers, and at $10 it's a steal.

Excellent game. Building, survival, exploration, and fun 3rd-person combat sort of like a more forgiving Dark Souls or Monster Hunter. Initially played with a large group during the pandemic, fell off after hitting the end-game that existed back then. Played solo during different updates and had a blast starting over, building, finding new ways to solve problems and explore a new randomly generated map. Finally started a dedicated server with two family members and completed the new biomes that were released and had tons of creative time, hilarious time, challenging time, explorative time... this game really shines in the diversity of excellent gameplay.

Strongly recommend... I have 450 hours in it, and I am certain we'll play more once True North is released. Hell, we are all playing Enshrouded right now trying to scratch the same/similar itch this game provided for so long.

If you like the gameplay loop you could easily put 100 plus hours into this game, but it may ruin other survival games for you.

This is one of those games that will be dead before it leaves early access. That's not to say the game is bad. I really enjoyed it. I'm not big into the genre and hate grinding but I had a lot of fun playing with friends. Worth $10 for sure.

I have hundreds of hours in this game. It's been in early access for years … literally. They have done a lot and added mist and ashlands. Game is heavy on the grinding aspect. If you have friends that would play I highly suggest it.

Probably my favorite game of the past 5-10 years. Such an incredibly fun co-op game, fun art style, simple mechanics, terrific music, and vast repeatability due to the massive modding community.

This game just has a vibe that's impossible to describe. If you can convince a few friends to tag along, you can seriously lose yourself in it. This is NOT typically my kind of game. I scoffed when my friends suggested it. Once I finally caved and joined them, I lived/breathed/dreamed Valheim for like 2 weeks straight. It's seriously one of the best social gaming experiences I've ever had.

I've played through it 3 times, but I'm waiting for an honest-to-goodness 1.0 for my next playthrough.

There's a pretty active modding community, too. I've barely messed around there.

This game is not worth $10.
It is worth $100.

It's even better on a co-op server with a friend

This is one of my favorite games period... It's incredible to play with a smaller group of 3-4 people if you can get people together to do a run through. If you are starting out completely new, and get to the "end game" (beating the final boss that's currently released) it's easily gonna take you 100 hours I would say. There is so much already in the game and so much to discover that it's well worth it just for that.

But then on top of that.. there is an amazing amount of mods and many community servers (some with over 100+ players online at a time, pretty much more akin to an MMO with guilds and all sorts of stuff) that the amount of time you can spend on it is crazy. I think I'm getting close to 4,000 hours now and I'm still looking forward to it going 1.0 and the updates to come, but also having a great time on a community server that has resets about 2 times a year to keep things fresh.

You really can't go wrong with Valheim.

This is an excellent game. It's true that in "normal" mode it can get very grindy if you don't have a larger group.

If you're considering this but don't have a lot of time or a group to play with, you should know that they added game modifiers to make it much easier (or harder) if you want. You can change combat difficulty, increase resource gather rates and remove fast travel restrictions. You can even remove the cost to build items once you've unlocked the recipe.

You can also have a bunch of different worlds each with their own settings if you want to try different gameplay styles.

I really doubt this, they've made slow but steady progress and added a lot of content to the game already, and have just one biome left. There is no reason to believe they won't finish the game. But I'm even if they did just drop it right now, it's enjoyable as an entire game in itself, the only reason it isn't labeled as a finished game is because they want to add one more biome to it.

Nope.

They made over a $100mil 4 years ago and are still pushing updates.

Unfortunately, the updates have been SLOW. They do seem close to the finish line now. I run this on a dedicated server and some of my friends play this game exclusively; too bad the engine isn't optimized. The frame rates can really tank, and my server isn't exactly a slouch. I think this time next year the game will finally see full release

I do want to add that some of my friends do not like this game. It can be incredibly unforgiving at times. But if you have friends that are okay with dying, losing their equipment, and losing their experience levels, then it can provide an unbelievable experience, especially with a large group of friends scouring your generated world looking for resources and hunting down sea monsters on ships.

another fantastic game is Grounded. that is a more curated experience, so it has some advantages and disadvantages. i would put these two games as must plays for survival craft games.

This game is amazing, and I can't explain why. It just hits the right chord. It can be very frustrating at times but the grind is fun because of the often small successes.
