I've had a couple hick ups with mine but it's been a solid unit for 5 years as well.

The filter replacements are cheap and it's easy to clean what needs to be cleaned.

Just wondering if the descale light is a timed system that lights up with the amount of brews. I've been using RO water since getting my Keurig and lit up after a year. Never descaled the Keurig, but never had a problem. That was two years ago!

These things inevitably break down after a few years. Take a look on Marketplace or Craigslist and pick up a used one. They're only like 20 bucks.

I also use RO water and have never had my descale light come on. I have not proactively descaled during my 5 years of ownership.

The descale light just comes on if the circuitry senses that it took longer than expected to pump the chosen volume of water. Besides scale buildup, sometimes that could be caused by grounds plugging the needle inlet, or by some K-cups packed with extra grounds, or a weakened pump, or a combination. The light will go out by itself, if the next cup finishes in a normal time.
