Highly recommended as this is the pro model with the faster CPU (2Ghz vs 1.8Ghz). Same CPU as the larger 8 antennae spider looking one. This is on the top end for this size. After this model you'd have to get the upside-down spider looking ones.

I suggest getting a USB fan to blow on the back because of the "global boiling". It's what I use one of the USB ports for.

I waited years for 6e units to come out and become affordable. In 2021, my router died, I end up buying this ax86u because there wasnt much 6e choices out there. It 6 was still pricy at that time, 250-275. Wifi7 may be out next year but it'll prob start over $500 like when 6/6e units shows up and waiting for it to become affordable, then wait for compatible wifi cards to appear. you may keep waiting forever.
obligatory "wifi 7 is coming next year, i'd wait unless you really need a new router" comment

This is a supreme deal. I can't think of a better router at full price and you are getting a discount here. Take it and laugh.

Best router I've ever had. Merlin firmware with qos and VPN director is rock solid.

I like my non pro version, except for the fact that they don't allow you to disable ap isolation on the guest network despite that option being listed in the config. This means devices connected to the guest network cannot see each other. Merlin doesn't do it either. My previous routers did not have this limitation. I just want two networks, isolated from each other, but I want the devices on the secondary network to work the same

Do you find your unit runs hot? I have the non pro as well and seeing your post makes me think I should put one on mine.

I was thinking the same, I have gone through 2 units in 3 years (both fortunately Asus RMA's due to 2 year warranties). Both had a 2.4 ghz wifi failure, maybe its the heat killing it but I doubt it as its sitting in a pretty ventilated area and it never gets over 70F ambient. IMO drawing out more power using USB on the same router may actually make it hot Smilie.

would this work with a NetGear Nighthawk M5100 5G device? We generally run it on the 5 GHz band, not the 2.4 GHz frequency.
