Just saw a youtube video about these and how badly they mess up on repairs. The basics of it was the customer who is a tech channel had some drift in the controller and sent it in. They've had bad service from Asus before, so they took a ton of pictures and documented everything. Then Asus basically tried to blackmail them into a more expensive repair. There was a super tiny scratch on the unit that needed an eye loop to even see it, and because of that, the repair was gonna end up costing hundreds to fix. They didn't even mention the stated problem of controller drift and then threwted if they didn't pay for the repairs to begin in like 2 days then rhe unit would be sent back in pieces. Funny enough, once a video went out from him about the issue, they apologized and wanted to correct the issue. He did this because he'd heard a ton of complaints about this and Asus repairs in general. So look into it before you buy.

With the "X" released hopefully the older ones will keep dropping in price.

The Ally X has been released, has double the battery size and more RAM at twice this price. If you need raw power this is a great deal vs Steam Deck. For platformers the Deck is the best though

Great deal. Got one. Fair condition. Was missing charger and the microsd card slot was defective. Looks brand new. Came preinstalled with a tempered glass screen protector. I added the 2 year geek squad accidental warranty, so I don't have to deal with Asus if there's any issues. Paid $364.99 + $79.99 for 2 year warranty.

I bought two open box versions of these for my kids and both had defective SD slots.

I sent one in for repairs, and they ended up swapping out the thumb sticks as well as the SD. They also added an extra month onto the warranty. Process took maybe a week in total and was pretty painless.

I would have thought this would get more upvotes by now, because it's the same price (new) as the OLED Steam Deck. Or is that still a better buy, or people holding out for the ROG Ally X?

Glad I hesitated to buy this past week. But that makes me wonder, will prices keep going down especially once the new version comes out?

How can one diagnose bad SD without burning through a SD card? Also, what are the limitations after a buyer buys a unit for when asus must fix it?

Yeah, Asus has a history of basically fraudulently charge you for non-essential fixes as a way to fund the warranty repair. They have no scruples about doing it, and is very much intentional at this point after promising to make changes in the past, then not making changes. The person representing them at the time quit the company.

So yeah, I expect these to go much lower in price and wouldn't trust the warranty.
