Wish it was 32gb ram. Question and Answers on bestbuy says this is soldered with no memory slots available.

Asus wanted to try to force upsells to the $2400 4080 model with adequate RAM, so they purposefully nerfed this laptop with an outdated, soldered, non-upgradeable 16GB of RAM. There is no sensibly priced option in this laptop lineup right now, in what would otherwise be a great laptop with a great design.

Asus puts all their G16 laptops on sale immediately and keeps them there, ignore the MSRPs. The actual price of this laptop is $1599, so this is $100 off. Shows it's not selling well, because the greed of putting 16GB in this laptop (to force upsells) is rightfully biting them in the backside. Good. No laptop over $1000 makes sense with only 16GB of RAM. They should just stop making it.

It costs an insane $900 to upgrade to the actually well spec'd option, which has 32GB of RAM. $900!?! That's a ludicrous premium for the RAM, a 4070 to 4080 upgrade and the vapor chamber. It costs $600 to upgrade this to 32GB of RAM and an AMD processor (likely soon to be discounted like all the others). These upsells are ridiculous.

Asus should have put the vapor chamber in all the 4070 versions (hell, they already designed it) with 32GB of RAM. The 4080 version should be just around $2k. They went for more and are failing to sell. I hope they learn not to be so greedy next time. These laptops are great but are just broken by the corporate strategy here.

So don't buy it? There's plenty of people that don't need 32GB of RAM but want the build quality of this laptop. Apple sells plenty of $1000 8GB laptops so I don't think companies really care.

Reviewers also say this 4070 whines when it heats up, and the 4080 and 4090 are set up to have better ventilation. Hot laptop with 16gb is going to suck after a short while.

Wish it was a Ryzen. These core ultras are trash for a number of reasons.

Apple Also lies about child labor and is the worst offender of anti-consumer / Anti-right-to-repair manufacturing/marketing Doesnt do DirectX so games+os needing more than 16GB is a nonpoint on mac. Also Apple requires custom versions of software to work with their anemic ram....

By all means, continue use them as the glowing example of what a laptop manufacturer should be...

Don't bother with the 16gb ram. I recommend getting a g14 or g16 with at least 32gb ram. You'll be pleased with the uplift in speed and performance.

I have both right now the 4070 and the 4090 in front of me right now
Only difference in gaming is a 50% boost in fps
The 16gb ram is enough for all games today
I've tested both extensively
I'm keeping the 4070
My opinion this is the best do it all laptop right now
Unless you need crazy fps I wouldn't waste the money on the 4090
Battery life on the 4070 is better too
If you know what you are doing
I get 10 hours out of it
No one is gaming on battery unless you are plain stupid
The fan doesn't whine unless you use turbo mode which the 4090 also whines
Thermals are crap for either one
They both get above 86C heavy load
I use a laptop stand with fan that brings the thermals down to 71C at full speed
In silent mode this thing is cold
Hopefully that helps someone on the fence instead of reading comments from fools that never even had the thing in their hands

I have this 2024 G16 i9 185H 32GB RTX 4090. I have no complaints with this purchase.

1. OLED Screen w/ 240hz is amazing
2. Speakers are VERY nice and it's almost par w/ my 2023 MBP
3. I suggest people to get 4080 or 4090 if budget is no problem. The vapor chamber cooler is amazing and keeps the GPU temps around 72c-77c at heavy load gaming (without laptop cooler)
4. Battery life is amazing on this. Best I got out of it was 11 hours.

I'm glad you're happy with your purchase. It's a great computer. That still doesn't change the fact that 16GB of RAM on a premium gaming laptop in late 2024 is unacceptable for most people. I'm glad it runs your games well enough to satisfy your needs, but I intend to use my computers for more than a year or two and 16GB of soldered RAM is unacceptable on a premium gaming machine.

I'm confused what is going to happen that is doing to make your gaming laptop not work in 2 years because it has 16 GB of RAM? Most people want more RAM are doing different things than gaming they're doing video editing which can use a lot of RAM.

I'd really like to get the m16 with rtx4070 I9 240Hz 1440p display at $1000 open box but it's pretty much unavailable everywhere. Anyone know a similar laptop under $1300 ?
