The screen only 15.6 inches. Which means 141 PPI.
That's higher pixel density than a 27 inch 1440p monitor (108 PPI).
It's also higher pixel density than a 32 inch 4K monitor (137 PPI).
The extra pixels of a higher resolution screen would be significantly harder to drive for little benefit in this small form factor.

The 4070 isn't capable of playing some modern games at QHD with high settings, as it only has 8GB VRAM. Nvidia has been using 8GB VRAM on their x070 cards since 2016, and it's just not enough anymore.
As an example, a mobile RTX 4070 can't even hit an average of 20FPS for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Other GPUs that are generally regarded to be slower than the 4070 that have more VRAM run the game much faster.
If you're going to buy an 8GB GPU and you intend to play the latest video games, you may well be better off with a 1080p screen.

Have you tried running a game at 1080p on a 1440p screen? It doesn't look good, as it's not an even split. If the screen was 4k, you could go down to 1080p without issue.
Also, you're asking too much for this price point. Asus is making a competent RTX 4070 laptop that you can buy new for $1k, and they've been doing so for over a year. Unlike other brands they aren't using cheap hinges that break in a year, they aren't using a 45% NTSC screen, they aren't reducing the GPU wattage, and they're not soldering down the RAM. You even get 3 video output ports, advanced Optimus, USB 4, USB charging, and good battery life; not things you can take for granted on aggressively priced gaming laptops.
If you want more than that you're probably going to need to pay more, or buy used/refurbished.

Yeah I'd only argue that 1080p is grainy if it were an OLED. 15.6" at FHD is just fine. And output it to a higher res monitor if you want better.
The 1080p on a 15.6 inches monitor is no joke 🤣
