Have done a lot of research on this model: the 7700s performs slightly better than the 4060 and slightly worse than the 4070. All in all, this is a superb machine for the money. It also has Apple Macbook Air levels of battery life when not gaming.

That long battery? Really? How?

This is from an initiative called the AMD Advantage Edition where both the CPU and GPU plus the laptop drivers work to continuously manage the load. And this also has a very efficient APU which can run for quite a long while on a large battery. The one in Jarrod's video linked below has a lower tier GPU.

This is an AMD Advantage Edition laptop. Since the system is all AMD, they tweaked it for optimum load management and battery life. Jarrod's review has a lower end GPU than this one here.

Online reviews also take note of the long battery life when not gaming. This would be a great machine to double as a school/personal and gaming laptop. Even better if you can get it open box

would you consider that only having access to FSR resolution sclaing and not to DLSS, a disadvantage for this GPU? Should I consider something like that for buying a gaming laptop?

The main issue with an open box is the warranty. Asus will not extend the warranty on an open box.

Oh wow, I was under the assumption that the original warranty would transfer. That changes things then. Maybe only get an open box if you really need to save the money cause gaming laptops do need maintenance

That is a very good question, but I feel also a bit subjective in nature. These laptops have 1200p screens. To my (limited) understanding, DLSS at that res means it will be upscaling from 720p or something, so you won't have a great experience anyways. I'd prefer to run native and use just frame gen (which AMD has included in their drivers at driver level for any game) and then see where that takes me. If you're going to be playing on an external monitor, at 2k DLSS might start making a lot of sense, provided the 8gb VRAM doesnt kneecap performance. Both DLSS and framegen require extra VRAM.

The newest version of AMD Adrenalin software (their GPU app) adds support for RSR and AFMF2, which is basically FSR and frame gen but supported in every game since it's a setting in the app and not in game. The only thing to note is that RSR will upscale the entire game including the UI/menus while FSR and DLSS scale only the actual rendered game. In my experience having an AMD GPU in my desktop, both of them work exceptionally well for me (on quality mode), especially AFMF2 which has extremely low latency for a frame generation feature. I wouldn't say DLSS is worth it if you're looking at a 4060 laptop since this will provide better GPU performance overall and way longer battery life than most 4060 laptops and RSR is great since it basically makes upscaling available in every game (which is a problem with FSR which is not supported as much as DLSS in games)

Are there any good inexpensive 14in laptops with this kind of battery? Cheaper than a ROG G14, for example

The original warranty does transfer but it's only the remaining warranty. I bought an Asus open box recently and it only had 4 months left.
