I'm sure it's been mentioned and buried but extended warranty benefit goes away next month which sucks
Uhh yeah I have an Amex, this is not true lol
I'm sure citi fought hard in the bidding process to beat Amex to get the Costco account. Part of the terms were probably to offer better benefits for the customer....

Why is this ancient thread about an old credit card on the front page? I have this card and there's nothing great about it. I use it for restaurants when the rotating 5% cards aren't a better deal.
I just signed up for CapitalOne SavorOne which is always 3% on restaurants and don't have to play the Costco Rebate certificate game with them.
I wish the Costco card was still AmEx
I don't know why people are saying there's nothing great about it. Yes there's rotating cards that are better. But some people don't want to bother playing the rotating card game, it's a huge pain.
Some people spend so much time churning credit cards it's like a second job. A second, below minimum wage job
This post reminded me to close my Citi/Costco card account. Almost zero benefits remaining, ending the extended warranty protection was the last straw. Much better cards out there.
The thing that is absolutely ridiculous is the fact that you cannot exercise the rewards. You must wait until the end of the year. Unless you have >$300 in rewards you MUST go to the club to redeem. There is no extended warranty, no travel or rental insurance. Agree much better cards out there.
Does 4% only apply to Costco gas? I can't find that info anywhere. We don't have a gas station at the South Austin Costco. I get 3% back from my Amex card at any gas station and it also gets me 6% back at any grocery store (except Costco of course lol).

Amex Cash Preferred. I pay $95 annually to get 6% back at grocery and 3% at gas stations. My monthly bill at HEB grocery store is $300 and monthly gas bill is only $50 and so I get $18 back on grocery and $1.50 back on gas-in 4 months, I've made up the annual cost and now make $139 in cash back-more if I drove or cook more

Ask yourself, though - would you get more cash back if you got the no-AF blue card? It's only 3%, but that's for grocery, gas, and *online* purchases. Just for your gas and groceries its $126/yr cash back vs your $135 (net after AF). If you buy more than $300/yr online you come out ahead.

OK, I didn't say that those were the only benefits. The cash preferred card also has online purchases cash back plus 6% back on streaming. I've done the math-cash preferred is the superior option. Also, most of my online purchases are on Amazon and I have the Amazon credit card that gives me 5% back or 6% if I wait and save. So, for non-Amazon online purchases, I use Amex.
I've had this card jointly with my wife for a while.
At some point Costco algorithm went full rtard and started flagging all transactions as fraudulent for us and blocking the cards. Our credit scores are fine.
Couldn't buy anything from department store, gas stations, anything. Instant flag on the very 1st transaction. Card blocked. Spent numerous hours with CS getting them unblocked, they couldn't explain what was going on.But every time they'd unblock it, I'd get it blocked again the next time I used it. Nothing weird. Mostly gas or groceries.
After a few bounced transactions (the ones with penalty consequences), and completely inept useless CS we got fed up and told Costco to go f themselves and closed off the cards.

6% at groceries, which AMEX?
Any gas station is included in 4%.
