I agreed that this machine requires a lot of work before you can enjoy a fantastic cup of expresso drink. In terms of coffee dialing, This machine is probably the best espresso machine if you want to step into the espresso world since it comes with a grinder (just okay) and a decent machine. This machine has readily available parts and mods online, and there are also a large number of forum/videos that tell you how to fix or modifier your machine. Before COVID you can get this exact model for less than $400, but now days you need at least $500 from a reputable retailer. All in all, the price is not bad, and I would recommend anyone who want to step into the espresso world to get this machine.

Note that once you get used to it, the bean dial in process may just be one or two test runs to get the right consistency.
We were so impressed that when it went on sale for less than $400 in 2018, we bought two. Our plan was to use it daily until it wore out, but surprisingly, the same machine has been going strong for over six years without any issues. We've consistently made 4+ cups every day for the past five years. It's either a great product or we lucked out with an exceptional one. We're incredibly satisfied with this model.
Regarding the coffee itself, it excels in heating, pressure, and steaming milk. If you're considering it in 2024, I highly recommend making the purchase
In terms of the machine itself, I'd say it's likely a wash as to whether the Bambino or this model is better. This model just comes with a built in grinder, which as others have said, is just 'OK'. The advantage of the Bambino is that you can upgrade your grinder at a later date, and since the quality of your grinder is going to affect your end result more than the machine itself, you may get more use out of it.
If you're using this for espresso, you could consider saving some money and going with the regular Bambino model. The plus gives you a better steam wand (not important if you're not doing a bunch of milk drinks) as well as a 3 way solenoid, allowing you to back flush. Look into that solenoid and how it works, and that'll help decide if the extra money spent is worthwhile to you.

I bought this machine a few months back and returned it. Be prepared to lose a lot of coffee if this is your first time into this world of espresso brewing. Also be ready to adjust every time you switch beans so again more coffee loss and time loss. Ultimately I decided I was a basic coffee b* and went back to pour over. Perhaps the higher models that are more automated are easier for the novice but this one requires a lot of prep work and patience.

Is this much better than Bambino plus? I only do espresso, not latte art or anything else. I also had a 1zpresso grinder which is surprisingly good for my old Delonghi machine. These espresso machines rarely go on sale so not sure if i should jump on this.

Not much of an upgrade if at all if you already have a grinder that works well. This is integrated so you are paying for a grinder anyway (not a great one at tthat).

I wouldn't say "a lot of work". But then "a lot" is relative. Someone might consider 10 runs to be a lot. If you follow some basic rules, you can start getting good espresso after 5 or 6 shots.

Also it's rarely below $400 for a new one, if ever. Maybe once a year kind of occasion.

This is not a bad deal but I got this for $450 before tax last Black Friday. There was an additional 15% off cookware/appliances + 5% via the RedCard.
