RAM is soldered, if you are looking in this price range the G14 with 32gb and 4070 is $1,699.99.

I just snagged an OpenBox for 1450 only to realize the RAM is not upgradeable. I just upgraded ram for my 8 year old Asus ROG laptop and the fact that this one has soldered is beyond me. I'll return it anyways.

It's not just that the RAM is soldered, it's that Asus intentionally decided to make this 4070 model come with only 16gb. It's like Asus intentionally lowballed the amount of RAM on this model in order to push people to a 4080, and the much bigger price premium, just to get 32gb of RAM. A very Apple move.

Asus did such an amazing job with the engineering of this laptop, and then the executive team just pooped the bed by greedily sticking 16GB of soldered RAM in the most logical model to force upgrades. They went and designed a vapor chamber to manage heat in this thin and light gaming computer, and then didn't use it unless you spend an insane $800 premium.

Then the 4070 AMD model came out, and it has 32GB of ram. But they went and made that $2300 with no vapor chamber.

So close, Asus. And yet so very far. $1700 for a 4070 with 32GB of RAM and $2100 for a 4080 and these would be flying off the shelves. But greed won the day.

Great point, makes sense - but for those who can want, BF/CM not that far away, to bring the price (at least temporarily) to the levels you just mentioned, if not slightly lower.

2 inches less makes a huge difference. Cannot compare.

The marketing team does their studies on how to maximize profit, not make people happy. Every business does this, it's just simple economics.
