Can we just cut the foreplay and drop the $899 deal?

Wish the numbering makes sense, why is this the 3800 vs older models being 4400. Is the 8 indicating 8K video?

I was curious since I have the x4400h still going great and this 3800 seems to have even more features so not clear why it starts with a 3 instead of a 4?

4 of 4400 and 8 of 3800 are generation specific. When there was a 4400 there was a 3400. Now, there is a 3800 and 4800, and the primary difference is amplifier power and design.

The benefit of the 3800/4800 over the 4400 is hdmi 2.1, 8k and better support for OSD (onscreen display) with newer content formats. And of course Dirac.

The 6800 also had a decent price drop. Doing 7.1.4 this is what I'd need to swap out to HDMI 2.1 from my current one. Buy now or hold out for Black Friday, or hold out to see if next gen pops at CES at full price. The eternal Q Smilie

Which from what I read is barely better than the included Audyssey MultEQ XT32 which is actually incredible in its own right, particularly with the $20 app store app. Whereas to get like for like features on the Dirac you need to spend $599 + $110 for the bundle + UMIK-1 mic. So you're looking at 5%~ better sound for $610 extra? Therefore, if you have any speaker upgrades left, they will likely make a bigger impact than 5%, and you should focus on that instead.

Plus there is free third party software you can use with a PC and Audyssey's app to bring the gap down from 5% to e.g. 1%.

I would add the generation gap is different now so 3800 vs 4800 isn't as big as 3400 vs 4400.
That's why the 3800 is very similar to the 4400 with exception to the newer features mentioned.

On that, some other features I would point out.
They added Directional subwoofer integration up to the 4 independent sub outs.
You still have Sub EQ HT, this is just another option, works like Dirac's DLBC.
You have independent preamp mode which was only available on flagship models like the 8500.
The 4400 only has it for L/R fronts OR all preouts.
The 4400 can only process 9 channels, 3800/4800 can do 11 channels.

6800 is still fairly new and the A10H just came out. I don't see expect their replacements for a number of years!

"Hold for Black Friday" should be a rally call for all SDers!

Got a refurb 3700 with warranty from an authorized ebay seller last year for $600. I don't know if I got super lucky or something similar could be found around BF this year, but $1k seems expensive.

Unless you were running more than 2 subs and you wanted access to Dirac there are only a few of other feature differences that some may not need/want.
With A1EVO you likely not missing much with Dirac especially for the cost imo.
Thats a good price for that AVR btw.

Here is a comparison.

I'm pretty happy with it. Originally had a 2800 until I realized I would only be able to run 2 Atmos channels.

At this moment, the 4800 is $1499 sold by Amazon. I got it at that price last week.

Do I need to be concerned with the overheating and flashing red light of death issues in the Amazon reviews? Otherwise this seems perfect.
