It's a well-built laptop, but 16GB soldered is a little lean going forward. Playing most games on a 16GB system, I'm using 12GB+. I guess it just depends on how long you want the laptop to be viable for latest and greatest titles.

FYI Asus only gives a 90 day warranty on open box purchases. Best Buy may tell you the full warranty applies, but Asus changed my warranty after requiring the receipt for warranty work. Just keep that in mind if you are considering one of these open box laptops.

My G14 started randomly rebooting after about 6 months and Asus told me to get bent.

The stealth AI MSI laptop is a much better deal.
About the same weight, 4x the ram, Mini LED 4k display, rtx4080 for a bit cheaper.

It's a shame about the non -upgradable RAM, otherwise this would be a pretty great laptop.

Which probably won't be shipped lol. I got that one and debating whether I should get this one here just in case they don't ship it.

I wouldn't even consider this laptop because of the 16GB of RAM.
At least from a student view point you'd often have quite some apps open, and when you decide to launch a game you won't really have a choice to close other open programs.

Nah, 16gb is plenty for like 95% of people. It's on the verge and 32gb would definitely be better, but 16gb is fine.

Following that logic 8GB would probably be enough for 95% of users as most probably do email/Youtube/browsing/PDFs/Office
As this computer is over $1000 and portable I assume it isn't for people with that use case.

It's likely more oriented towards students/professionals that use (one or a combination of) :
-video editing software
-CAD software
-Programming IDEs/Run code
-game engines
-Run LLMs
-Do group projects, discord/zoom/Microsoft team/etc with screen sharing
-lots of people don't close their tabs
-people have more than one browser
And enjoy games

In most cases you could probably do with those 16GB but it hardly makes sense at this price to compromise on that.

Fully soldered RAM is a strange choice when previous Asus Zephyrus models had at least one SODIMM that could be swapped for hybrid dual-channel.

It's most limiting for gaming, which this laptop is clearly designed for, but will also be a limiting factor for anyone using it for graphic design and video mastering.

We will probably see a lot of these RTX 4000 series laptops on sale over the next 6 months before they start drying up. The new RTX 5070 mobile is a big disappointment, and looks bound to be a small upgrade over the RTX 4070 mobile. Both use the same process node, so there is no difference in performance per watt. Both have 8GB GDDR which is becoming a serious problem for midrange cards in modern games, and it appears the 5070 mobile may have a similar level of CUDA and Tensor cores to the 4070.

Basically, there is no reason to buy an RTX 5000 series GPU or laptop if you already have an equivalent level RTX 4000 GPU. This is probably Nvidia's weakest generational improvement since the RTX 2000 series, or the 3060 -> 4060, which somehow went backwards in performance per dollar.
