I wonder how a mobile 4070 compares to a desktop 4070.

Ok so I'll keep it simple.

PROS:
> This is the absolute cheapest you can find a laptop with a 4070 at this point in time. This exact laptop was $50 cheaper around New Years. This is the 2nd best price I've seen for a 4070 laptop
> The AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS is one of the best laptop processors from the LAST generation of AMD laptop processors
> The iGPU is plenty capably for light gaming but more importantly there IS an iGPU. Which means good things for battery life compared to laptops which only have dGPUs
> The weight is really good for a gaming laptop at just over 5 lbs

CONS
> The screen is garbage. There is no other way to put it
> There is no second m2 slot. So if you want a bigger SSD, you're going to have to replace the existing one

IMO there are no other cons. I ordered this. I have been kicking myself for not picking this up over New Years because the prices of laptops with 4070s have just kept going up. Tariffs and general inflation means that this is more likely to be more expensive than cheaper in the future. I'm kinda bummed that the launch of the 50 series laptop GPUs did not trigger clearance prices for the ones with the 40 series like this one, but the market does what the market wants to do...

It seems 16 GB can be updated to 32 GB.

The terribleness of the screen cannot be understated. Another issue with this laptop is it is very finicky and needs 100 watts to charge via USBC. Last bad thing about it is that you must use HDMI to have a direct connection to the DGPU.
It's a powerful laptop as it has the best processor I've seen in a gaming laptop in this price range.
The limitations became too much for me and I ended up returning it and I did still kind of like it and I got it open box for a really great price but it really feels like they cut every single thing they possibly could have.

I don't have a time machine, but this was cheaper at 850 during Christmas. The screen is just really bad. But if you plug in an external monitor, it is fine.

I bought one last week with open box excellent at $848, the price for new one was 999.
Now I see this dropped to 899 brand new, wondering if I should return the open box and get the new one……

Somewhat less powerful. I bet if you searched, you could probably find the answer pretty quickly on the internet. Perhaps taking what you typed and putting it into a search engine would work. 😉

For the specifics on graphics cards and the ability to compare them, check out TechPowerUp. For benchmarks, I usually use videocardbenchmark.net.

I'm not in the market for one as I have the desktop 4070 with an i3600k 32gb ram. . Was just curious. If I was in the market for a gaming laptop I'd jump on this though. My desktop PC kicks butt.

I have a 4 year old Dell laptop (Intel) with Thunderbolt that's connected to a Dell monitor via USB-C, that's daisy-chained to another Dell monitor with DisplayPort. Does this have any capability like that, to work with my existing two Dell monitors?.. I'm out of the PC-lingo-loop, and I'm unfamiliar with AMD machines.. but my Dell battery is failing (even when plugged in, randomly will shut off and come back to a screen that says Critically Low Battery), and I need a replacement.

I wouldn't count on it since it doesn't have Thunderbolt. The AMD near equivalent might be on this laptop, but I imagine HP would have specified it more if it did. Thunderbolt 4 and OLED screens have become my must have on laptops.
