Got an open-box one for $388 last time when there was a price error. Still in transit.
I have this laptop.

Screen is stunning and outclasses many laptops in the 1200+ range, although resolution is a bit low for professionals. It is highly color accurate and works great for photo edits. It's also much more readable in direct sunlight than you'd expect from a laptop.

Sound is decent; excellent detail and staging for it's size, but zero bass. It is plenty loud once you enable the "volume booster" sitting. That makes it passable for light media consumption (great YouTube machine in the kitchen/bathroom), but I wouldn't really watch movies on it without headphones.

You're going to want to upgrade the ram. 16GB is just enough for Windows, Chrome, and a serious productivity app. Even then, it's pushing it. One of the modules is swappable, the other is soldered; it's an easy upgrade.

This is not a gaming laptop, and you'd be disappointed if you intend to game on it. Still, the RTX 3050 will run some titles 2-3 years old perfectly fine.

Thermals are fine. It doesn't get particularly hot, but it's not great at dumping heat either. The CPU does thermal throttle if you let it boost.

Build is plastic, but good. Hell, it's actually Mil spec rated.

Battery is decent. If you do get this laptop, do NOT update the Nvidia drivers past the ones on ASUS's website, or install the Windows 24H2 update. Both are known to mess with the dGPU sleeping (even if you manually disable it), tanking your battery life from 7 hrs 30 mins watching video to 3 hours 30 mins. Yes, I verified this personally with overnight BatteryMon drain tests. Web browsing with a YouTube video playing on another window will last about 5-6 hours. The USB-C charging feature means you can extend your runtime with a power bank.

There's also another quirk - the USB-C ports on ASUS laptops are a bit... Quirky. Sometimes one will just stop working, and won't come back unless you fully drain the battery or open up the laptop to pull the battery. Thankfully it's not too hard to open up, and the other USB-C port will function normally, but it's still important to mention.

Overall, this is a good creator laptop for the money. I personally use it as 3D modeling station and content creation machine. The battery life and screen also makes a decent travel work laptop; you can do light work / watch movies on flights without much worry.

I just bought this open box for $588. Can anyone chime in who actually owns this laptop? How hot does it get? Is the fan noise bad?

Good Laptop!!! Very fast, but the battery life is terrible. Even with battery saver on, this model only gets about 3 hours of battery life with half brightness. I did the local pickup when it was at $450. Great deal still. During every day task, it doesn't get too warm, some tolerable fan noise.

Honestly a great deal at $700 brand new. I think it was $750 new on Black Friday, so $50 cheaper a month later.

I got the open box excellent for $380 and really like this laptop. Already posted my initial impressions about it yesterday. Besides what I've said yesterday, this thing is a fingerprint/grime/oil magnet, so be prepared to always be wiping it down, unless you don't care if your laptop's lid get ugly quick.

Hey don't know if it helps I got one in August for 799 non touch. Honestly not bad for the price but I'm not in love either. Definitely didn't game well at all also multiple crashes,so I wouldn't really look at it for that and for me that wasn't a big deal. Great port selection and expandable which is what I needed. Fans never been a issue unless I put a strain on it. The screen isn't great to me seems grainy and font doesn't look great. It's about the price I would say it's worth it for this price or cheaper also depends on what your budget is. Other that a few bugs it's been performing well enough. I will be buying something better next year for more a work horse.

Well, Asus doesn't warranty even though they claim they warranty without a ridiculous upsell.

It's supposed to be addressed....
