Screen is stunning and outclasses many laptops in the 1200+ range, although resolution is a bit low for professionals. It is highly color accurate and works great for photo edits. It's also much more readable in direct sunlight than you'd expect from a laptop.
Sound is decent; excellent detail and staging for it's size, but zero bass. It is plenty loud once you enable the "volume booster" sitting. That makes it passable for light media consumption (great YouTube machine in the kitchen/bathroom), but I wouldn't really watch movies on it without headphones.
You're going to want to upgrade the ram. 16GB is just enough for Windows, Chrome, and a serious productivity app. Even then, it's pushing it. One of the modules is swappable, the other is soldered; it's an easy upgrade.
This is not a gaming laptop, and you'd be disappointed if you intend to game on it. Still, the RTX 3050 will run some titles 2-3 years old perfectly fine.
Thermals are fine. It doesn't get particularly hot, but it's not great at dumping heat either. The CPU does thermal throttle if you let it boost.
Build is plastic, but good. Hell, it's actually Mil spec rated.
Battery is decent. If you do get this laptop, do NOT update the Nvidia drivers past the ones on ASUS's website, or install the Windows 24H2 update. Both are known to mess with the dGPU sleeping (even if you manually disable it), tanking your battery life from 7 hrs 30 mins watching video to 3 hours 30 mins. Yes, I verified this personally with overnight BatteryMon drain tests. Web browsing with a YouTube video playing on another window will last about 5-6 hours. The USB-C charging feature means you can extend your runtime with a power bank.
There's also another quirk - the USB-C ports on ASUS laptops are a bit... Quirky. Sometimes one will just stop working, and won't come back unless you fully drain the battery or open up the laptop to pull the battery. Thankfully it's not too hard to open up, and the other USB-C port will function normally, but it's still important to mention.
Overall, this is a good creator laptop for the money. I personally use it as 3D modeling station and content creation machine. The battery life and screen also makes a decent travel work laptop; you can do light work / watch movies on flights without much worry.

Last time I bought open box asus rog ally and asked asus for warranty and they told me to ask bestbuy about warranty, asus doesn't cover warranty
Bought the BB protection plan just in case my oled screen starts to burn in down the road.
380 OTD for the laptop. A good pickup for sure!
No regrets

Thank you for the detailed review! I'm looking for a laptop for one of my kids whose into art so this looks like it'll work for her
Yes, 1 RAM slot that takes up to 32GB. 8 gb soldered. 40 gb total

Thank you, which RAM do you suggest. Any links for a decent one?
I used this. Crucial never fails https://a.co/d/eC9QgQC
If you want the absolute best performing RAM then Kingston Fury is it - they have the tightest timings overall on the market
Any DDR5 5600Mhz stick will do just fine. All that stuff about timings and what not only matter for gaming, and this laptop simply is not a gaming machine. Creator apps like Photoshop/Blender/Lightroom/After Effects/Fusion 360/Solidworks could not care less about timings.
In short, any DDR5 5600Mhz stick from 16GB-32GB will make you plenty happy. 16GB (24GB total) would be enough for hobbiest level work, 40GB (32GB total) is enough for professionals.

edit: after a BIOS update from v306 to v308, the coil whine was greatly reduced
edit2: after spending a day with this laptop, I noticed screen flickering at lower brightnesses... turns out it uses a monitor with pwm dimming at a rate of only 60Hz (this is separate from refresh rate). If you find yourself getting eye strain or headaches all of a sudden after using this laptop for awhile, then this is probably the cause.
